Didn't wanna hijack another persons thread there! But there was a comment that I just wondering about

"As you were told before if you read through the thread (or the stickies),you can't burn fat & gain muscle at the same time, you need to be on a calorie deficit for 1 & a calorie surplus for the other!"...

I kinda understand the theory and that behind it. This may sound silly but I kinda wanna do both. simply cos I wanna lose weight and dont like being big!But I wanna change my shape as I do it in the sense I wanna look good (not skinny)....So according to the above quote do I have 2 options in black and white...
One- eat less and cardio myself skinny -Once skinny- lift and eat more.
two- lift heavy and eat lots...then when even bigger cut the food..

I prob have this all jumbled up. but just wondering can ya not eat lots of protein around maintenance or bit less...lift weights 3-4 times a week with decent programme..throw in some sprints....and loose fat whilst building muscle and "toning" up (dont wanna get pedantic about that term..ya know what I mean)....

Not really loooking for a personal reponse in regards to my own training/situation...moreso a general response to the topic to better my own views on it.cheers

    It's difficult but not impossible.

It'd be easier to achieve in someone with a higher proportion of adipose tissue to lean body mass but that's not to say it can't be done.

And, in my opinion, what you've outlined there is a good way to about trying it.

Protein will be key, aim for at least 2g of protein per kg of bodyweight and try to hit maintenance calories (bodyweight in kg x 30.8)

    Good luck!

Yeh I suppose when ya lifting and that and not eating way way above maintenance ya gonna start looking better! was just taken aback by the black and white approach. It was kinda making me think that the lifting of weights was in fact pointless for people looking to loose weight! as it is pointless without a calorie surplus!!!now i know thats not true I just took that from it!
