Hi Dave, welcome and yeay, another Pentaxian, it feels a bit lonely sometimes :)

I was looking at a review on the K30 a little while ago, that looks really good allright. I still have my heart set on a K5 though, I suppose coming from the K-x, I want a bit of a change, something a bit more "serious", to see if I can handle it.
I really really reaaaally want something weather sealed, although my lenses are not, but right now I'm thinking ah sure, a plastic bag wrapped around will do the trick. It's harder to have the bag around the body and the lens, I've done that.

I'm in Co Waterford, and a working Mum, so it leaves few opportunities for photowalks, and week-ends away, but you never know, I might go up the Galway direction for a week-end on my own treat someday, in which case I might get in touch with you guys.

    Hi,
If you're in Galway any weekend give me a shout.
Galway is small but some nice areas for photos-

Some nice shots there dineenp. If I'm heading down your way, I'll give you a shout.

My K-30 arrived today. It's going to take a bit of getting used to - my hands had learned the layout of the K-5, but it's a good camera and the test shots I have taken with it look good.

So it's now time to sell the K-5.
Manufactured Jan 20122, 5800 shutter count, spare D-LI90 battery and a custom split focus screen installed which cost US$100 delivered from here: http://tinyurl.com/dymagxf (I put it in to help with accurate manual focussing, and it doesn't effect metering or AF).

So should I put it on ebay or adverts or somewhere else?

I'm thinking €650 (it's in perfect condition), but I want to price it correctly after seeing this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=27 What do you fellow Pentaxians think?

I'm a working dad too so can't hope away any given weekend either. In Dec Im going to Dublin for the boards book launch/photowalk, in Jan off to Liverpool for a football match so for me it'd be Feb or Mar if we were looking at Dubiln for a get together.

If we were looking at Galway I'd have more open windows but I'd like to go somewhere else. Dublin is an obvious choice for me as it's big and has a lot going on.
I organised one in Limerick a while back and it was a success. I'd love to do Belfast but it would it be too long a trip for some?

I'm looking forward to the weekend in Dublin, I'll hold a K-30 and see if there's any chance of me going for it instead of the K-5 (2nd hand) that I plan on upgrading too.

I'm very suprised and shocked buy the massive price drop of hte K-7 recently (one for 260 sterling in some places!)

Anyone living anywhere near Galway and own a true wide angle lens (e.g. 10mm)?
I'm thinking of buying one but would like to try one out, could meet up for a cup of tea/mini photowalk etc.

    Hi All,

another pentax user here....... have been using them since my first slr (an mz50) back in 98 or so. Currently sporting a K20 and really like it (just wish it focused a bit quicker every now and then!)

Also have a few film ones (ME super, P50, P30, MZ30).... all great in their own way.

Pentax all the way for me.

My name is streetshooter, and I'm a pentaxian - there I've said it, and I feel much better LOL

But seriously, have been using Pentax for a while now, had a K100 and then a K20 (currently for sale at http://www.adverts.ie/digital-cameras/pentax-k20d-camera-for-sale/2485261) and now have a K30, which I'm still getting used to.

I'm living in the Clare area at the moment, and my main photography outlet to date has been on www.photographyireland.net , but it's lonely as I've never met another Pentax user.

So just thought I'd check in - would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in some form of an "outing" - I'd be preoared to organise if there were wnough interested.

    Let's hear your ideas :)

    Welcome as well.
I'm living in Galway so we're not that far apart.
I'm looking to sell my K-7 and upgrade to a K-5. I think I'd miss the top panel lcd and extra external controls.

I'd be on for an outing sometime but not sure when. If it was in Galway I could do most weekend but if futher afield I'd 'have to see'.

    Thanks Patrick.

I know what you mean about the top panel lcd, but I've just about got the used to it.

It hard to separate the K5 and K30 - I like the option I have to use AA batteries!

Yep, a trip to Galway might be on - anybody else interested, or have any comments?

Awaiting delivery of my new (to me) sigma 70-200 F2.8 so will have plenty of mojo for shooting for all of February, hopefully culminating in some super photos of the Giant's causeway for World Pentax Day(s), as we will be visiting there that weekend!

I have that lens and love it. I don't use it that often but it gives me a warm feeling just knowing that I own it...

btw it was only last week that I had the courage to take off the tripod ring mount thing. I wasn't sure if it came off or not but it does quiet easily.
    enjoy it.

Another Pentaxian here since Christmas :)

I have a K30, with the 18-55mm WR lens. I got an old 50mm f1.9 Chinon(?) lens and an 80-200mm f4.5 Topman(?) from ebay for about 30 euro for the pair. With an adapter ring I have a nice helios 44m4, without infinity focus, and a couple of other old lenses which are a bit worse for wear.
I've a tt560 flash waiting for me in my local parcel motel, so I'll get playing with that after work.

Before this, I was using a nikon d40 for a couple of years, and when that was stolen ~11 months ago it was replaced with a sony hx9v while saving for another DSLR.

Hey, I'm looking to upgrade from my 18-55 & 50-200 kit lenses. Have the 40mm F2.8 in the basket as recommended by Pentexian DineenP. Or should I fork out for the Sigma 30mm F1.4....? I do mainly portrait and landscapes.

    Semi-Clareman living in Galway :)

40mm is ok for portraits, nice looking lens.

The 30mm is too short for portraits, and too long for standard landscapes - with the crop it's 45mm in old money.

Another to consider is the 50mm f/1.4, or the 35mm Ltd Macro. Both super lenses, the 50mm would be perfect for portraits.

    What about Pentax smc DA 35mm f/2.4 - it's €175..

Have you considered the Tamron 17-50 f2.8? It has a bit more versitility with the reach. It's a big and 'not light' lens but v.good
I love my Sigma 30mm f1.4 as it's great for indoor shots of the kids; great for low light and can stand closer than with a 50mm. But not the perfect portrait lens.

Gonna look at it now. I would prob do way more landscape than portrait, and my budget is €400-€500..

Check the 15mm Ltd - perfect for landscapes.

I picked up a Samsung 12-24mm lens on ebay - it's a Pentax made lens, badged as a Samsung-Xenon, not as good as the 15mm, but more versatile and cheaper too.

These older non premium brand lens can be mighty fine.

I have an old Rikenon 50mm manual lens which may actually be my favourite lens of all time (also have two other classic 50s Pentax A, and Pentax FA - which are great but there's something about the Rikenon). I think it cost me €12 on flea bay.

I also have an aged Tamron 80-200 2.8 manual lens which again has a character to it that you just dont get from newer lens. The aperture ring isn't actually working in the A position so its as good as manual. It's as heavy as a brick. Manual focus only. But all of that aside, its a lot of fun.

Generally they're really economical and of tremendous quality when used right.

So yeah, i'd try any of the older lens with joy.

Thanks for the advice, got a Rikenon 50mm on eBay, and you're right it's pretty cool. :)
