Sunderland usually put up a good show against us so this will definitively not be easy.
Im gona say 2-1 United but its gona be a nervy affair.

Is Valencia available? I'd like to see him line up instead of Welbeck.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

Valencia is available but Welbeck is nailed on to start as he was rested midweek. He played well against Everton last week as well so deserves to start.

If anything, Valencia might get the nod over Nani. I doubt it though.

Edit: Actually, Nani will play 2 games against Bosnia next week so Fergie might not start him at all. Could be Valencia and Welbeck.

The backlash will come today. It's been building. 4-1

The last two seasons we've gone for it against Manchester United and ended up with two points, a two goal defeat, and a last minute defeat! To be honest, I'd expect Bruce will be happy enough getting out of there after keeping the score down with a nice run of fixtures to come after the international break.

My prediction is for us to concede early, slowly come back into the game, before Manchester United kill it off with around 15-20 minutes to go. 2-0.

Just on the team news, Vaughan has a slight groin strain so Cattermole may come in for him. And Bruce seems to be hinting at Wickham playing a left sided midfield role () so I wouldn't be surprised to see him there with Sessegnon playing off Bendtner.

Best of luck anyway lads, even though you won't need it!

EDIT - Just been told the team is this:
    Westwood

    Bardsley Brown Turner Richardson

    Larsson Vaughan Colback Sessegnon

    Bendtner Wickham

Wickham will be dropping back to make a midfield 5 when we don't have possession.

Double EDIT - Vaughan struggling after fitness test. Cattermole on standby.

Welcome back to OT Wesley! Hope he has a good game but the rest of his teammates have stinkers.

    2-1 or 3-1 to United.

We've been horrible recently. It wouldn't surprise me if ye nicked a point here.

    Likewise.

I hope Evans doesnt start,he is capable of doing anything, and I think teams know that, put the pressure on him and will crack, today is an ideal game to get Vidic and Rio partnership going again

Lindegaard, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Rooney, Park, Nani, Welbeck, Hernandez

Park is in CM I think. Welbeck on the left, Nani right with Rooney in behind Chico. Pretty much as I expected.

Evra was never a confirmed absentee.

I think Jones will make quality overlapping runs and Nani failing to slip the ball onto him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

park in cm is just a massive no no.

i would think its rooney in CM, park and nani on the wings, hernandez and welbeck up top. we should win, but i dont expect us to play too well with that team, hope i am wrong. at least our back 4 should be strong anyway and i expected lindegaard to play today.

if things are not going well, carrick on, welbeck out left and rooney up top, park off. should start that way IMO, but not surprised that fergie does something mad again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

Could have been a lot worse from a Sunderland point-of-view, although that opinion will probably change when we go 5-0 down after an hour :pac:

    I presume it will be:
    Lindeegard

    Jones Rio Vidic Evra

    Nani Fletcher Rooney Park

    Welbeck Hernandez

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

It's alright lads, we have Mame Biram Diouf on the bench.

i never usually agree with you on anything but this i do

If we do see Rooney play in the middle of the park today, not entirely sure he will do, i'd expect him to have a different role than wednesday nights game. Midweek he fulfilled most of the defensive duties of the midfield duo thus not getting far enough up the field during some of the play. With Fletcher back today i would assume he will provide the cover for the back four and so if Rooney does play there he will have alot more of an attacking imfluence than midweek.
Ideally i would like to see him play in the whole behind Hernandez with WElbeck and Nani either side but if Sunderland choose to play a 5 man midfield we could see more a standard 4-4-2 with Rooney playing a deeper role behind Hernandez.

Agreed. Looked like ligaments to me but hopefully it's just a twist. Awful for an 18 year old who's just beginning to start every week.

Vidic usually plays as the left sided centre half him and rio are switched around . Interesting
