So UFC 138 is just around the corner and despite the grumblings about the card, I am gutted that I can't go. It would be the first European event I have missed and I actually think there are some good match-ups on the card. I don't think anybody can deny that Leben, Alves, Etim, Diabate, Perosh Omigawa and Young are exciting fighters to watch - I am also hearing some great things from some UK blogs about Vaughan Lee.

So what fights are you looking forward to seeing.

Oh and is Gary Neville on the card?

    neville+ufc.png

    MAIN CARD (Spike TV)
    Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz
    Renan Barao vs. Brad Pickett
    Papy Abedi vs. Thiago Alves
    Terry Etim vs. Edward Faaloloto
    Cyrille Diabate vs. Anthony Perosh
    PRELIMINARY CARD (Facebook)
    Justin Edwards vs. John Maguire
    Michihiro Omigawa vs. Jason Young
Rob Broughton vs. Philip De Fries
    Chris Cope vs. Che Mills
    Chris Cariaso vs. Vaughan Lee

The play-by-play threads on the mma websites all seem to start at 1:40 ET which is 5:40 pm our time I think.

Bad time for the UFC to have technical difficulties.

Nice I was kinda hoping there would be a bit of "Woo!" for Cope.

The UFC Facebook page is working fine here.

Just got home in time for the penultimate pre-lim.

Dunno what the rest of the fights have been like so far, but despite it's lack of star power, I can see it being a night of exciting fights.

It can't be worse than last week anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭conor678

My bad, just didn't see the link on the side. Agree that nothing really tickles my fancy this event but I'll watch it regardless. This fight is a bit lack luster to say the least!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,323 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

What a horrible fight but I expected nothing more from a fight featuring Rob Broughton.

    Mini-Randy Couture up next.

He should thank his lucky stars for cards like this, Fight Nights masked as PPVs. Coz he'd never have gotten onto a numbered event otherwise!

Really enjoyed that fight. Your man Maguire was really impressive on the ground!

I wonder is he insulted that Brad Pickett walks to the cage dressed as a traveller?

I'd say Etim will walk through this guy unless he's badly rusty after such a long layoff.

I hope so. I've a lot of time for Etim. He's spent a long time being impressive but flying under the radar. Hoping he can string a few wins together.

Wow, now that was perfection by Etim, couldn't do no better.

Glad to see the lad back, deserves a nice run now

    Sweetness!

Can see Etim getting a big name on the New Years Vegas card now.

    Lol, very true.

I'd actually forgotten he'd dropped down to 205.

He's still nowhere near good enough to be in the mix in the UFC.

    Poor Chris Cope! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Next up: Alves by TKO inside 2 rounds.........

I wonder what the story is with Papy Abedi making his debut on the main card against Thiago Alves. Joe Silva must have been seriously impressed by his previous fights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Nanoc

bloody hell, went out to make the kids bottle and missed the whole fight :pac:

Lets be honest here, he's on the Main Card on a Fight Night card.

IMO this card is only a numbered card so they could validate the fact that the main event is a 5 Rounder.

Anyone just see Shane Long there in the crowd?

    Jesus, this lad is massive!!

I wonder will he actually be as big as Alves tonight? Apparently Alves missed weight AGAIN last night and needed a second attempt to finally make the weight!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭loremolis

This could be interesting. The new guy is huge.

No but I hope he brought Alan Hutton with him for helping him get the day off to go!

    Super stuff tonight

Everyone fancies Barao for this one. Under estimating Pickett.

I fancy Pickett for an upset here.

    cracking end to that fight,

Is it just me or are the refs not jumping in as quick as they do normally? maybe not just a couple of times they looked like they were about to stop then changed their minds without any major difference in the fight
