Just wondering if it's worth watching? I'm thinking about giving it a go as I've never watched it before.

    Great show

Runs for five seasons so that will keep you going for a while

    Highly recommended

The pilot is not great but it gets better and better as it goes on

Remember Paully D, if you find yourself in a tough situation then WWRD
    What would Riggins do?

I'm assuming you're posting about the TV series
The book came first, then the film and then the TV series.

I've no idea what the series is like but the film is pretty good. Boobie Miles is a great character in it. It also features a young Amber Heard in it. She's unreal looking. Can't remember much apart from that.

As for the book I haven't read it but I've constantly heard it being mentioned as one of the greatest sports books of all time. SI ranked it 4th in their list of the best of all time. I'll pick it up some time down the line. I've way too many books to read before then though.

watched the movie last week - really enjoyed it.. :)

I've being meaning to get round to the series for the last while but hopefully I'll get the chance in the next week or two to get started on it....

I've heard nothing but good things about it so it hopefully will be worth the watch :)

I've only just started watching the show and I thouroughly recommend it. I'm flying through the episodes atm.

    Riggins is a legend.

The show is awesome. Got completely addicted to it. Great characters and storylines....The Tim Riggins character is one of the best in TV. Pity it's finished after 5 gr8 series

    Coach Taylor, Smash, Riggins.....

What a show, one of my fav TV Series of All Time. I have recommended this to multiple people down the years and not one of them have stopped watching or disliked it.

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose! :)

    Is this available to buy??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,416 ✭✭✭FreeOSCAR

    Ah I'm sure it is.

HMV and the like would probably be selling a few seasons of it.

Online there are loads of deals.

    Example:
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Friday-night-Lights-seasons-1-2-3-4-5-/260836268250?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_DVDs_DVDs_GL&hash=item3cbb0d98da

€70 for all 5 Seasons is excellent value.

If you want to watch it for free then there's every episode available online here:

    http://www.sidereel.com/Friday_Night_Lights

Hosted on Megavideo, Video BB, etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,969 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Just on DVD's, I haven't checked the above link but it was never released on Region Two.
It's only available on Region One which is not such an issue anymore with multi-region players but not everyone has these

    I didn't anyway

If that's you too, watch online

And look out for Nnamdi Asomugha in his cameo role

He does a fine job too, the man has a future in acting imo

Awesome, awesome series. Just watched the last ever episode a couple of weeks ago and, as disappointed as I was to see it end, they did a great job. Addictive stuff with some fantastic looking ladies.

    Mrs Coach = MILF

Was the last season not a load of crap? Watched them all apart from it (first 3 or 4 episode watched, thought they were awful).

Other than that its a great show. Its like a manly dawsons creek :)

Well I'm a few episodes in and I have to say I love the QB who gets his chance at the start, Matt something I can't think of his surname at the minute, I hate Voodoo the new QB and the long haired lad (Tim) is a bit of a twat as well. It will take me a few more episodes to learn their proper names, etc.

Good call on the women, there's some serious MILF's in it, and Lyla's class ;)

    Riggins is a whiner anyway

"Where's the me time Billy? What about my me time"

Loved the show, never liked him at all

Crack on Paully D, you have five series to get through

I have never watched the series (always gave me that Dawsons Creek feeling when i saw bits of it) but i have read the book and it is a great read. Easons were stocking it recently and its well worth shelling out for!

Yeah I liked how it ended but dont see how they could make a movie out of it. Me thinks as awesome as the movie might be it might ruin the awesome ending.

watched the film and read the book and i couldn't recommend them highly enough and the soundtrack is awesome. i don't watch the series incase it ruins it for me. read the book first and then the film would be the best way to do it. go panthers....

I've only been watching it a couple of nights and I'm halfway through the first series already! It's very good so far.

A movie would be awesome. Have Coach Taylor take over some crappy little uni then bring in Riggins, Smash, Vince and even Landry to kick and just tear it up.

Sure might as well go the whole hog and have Jason Street and his wheelchair in some sort of crazy wide receiver role :D

    Get it made!

Don't compare it to the Book and Movie as they are completely different. Book/Movie were loosely based on real life and the TV show is all made up just for TV. So many have compared it to the Book/Movie and disliked it due to it. The different or made up school name and totally different characters turn them off it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,037 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Book movie and series are all very different IMO

Read the book a year or so ago anf found it fasinating. went into interesting detail about the team, town and the background that lead to these 16 and 17 yr olds being heros in their small town. Interesting to read too the parallels between the boom/bust cycles of a Texan oil town given the economy here in recent years.....excellent read probably an 8.5 or 9/10 from me, and i'm generally not a big fan of 'sports' books.

The TV series is very different but enjoyable enough in its own way. Relying on box sets i'm currently just started series 5. Got series 1 out of curiosity and it's easy on the eye and the head......the Mrs fell in love with it and insised I got the next series and so on (which was OK with me :) ) and she knows nothing about American football. All bar series 1 ae only avalable in region 1 afaik but it should be easy to access unlock codes for your DVD player to make it region free.

By coincidence, i watched the movie last night......found it OK but it was neither one thing or the other IMO, lacked the charm of the TV series but the realism and detail of the book. A bit cliche'ed IMO and too Hollywood for me but it'll pass an hour and a half handily enough i suppose.

Midway through the first series. Brilliant stuff so far. Poor aul coach has more headaches than Brian Clough had at Leeds!

    Seconded. Riggins is the man.

Loved that show, was heartbroken when I read online that they would be calling it quits at the end of the season :(

Riggins and Saracen were the dream team :P

Best TV show I've ever watched. Is there any better couple on tv than Coach and Tami?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

    Almost finished the first series.

Very enjoyable, Riggins has grown on me I have to say. Matt is class, the lad that plays him is a really good actor, I hope things keep going well for him over the course of the show. Tyra and Layla are too fit

    Great show :)

    Just finished...

    Wow.

Enthralling tv. Absolutely enthralling. Loved every season. The characters were fantastic. The actors brilliant. The chemistry realistic. And the cinematography throughout was fecking quality. Don't think I've ever become as emotionally attatched to characters or a tv show as I have done with this.

    And as for the finale...

    Take.

    A.

    Fúcking.

    Bow.

    Son.

It's jumped to #2 on my all time favourite tv shows right behind Band of Brothers.

    Texas Forever.

Only discovered this recently, nearly done season 1 very good so far - was a bit worried about spoilers in this thread but it's very good :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

I'm far too addicted to this show.

Up until now, The Wire was by far and away the best TV show I had ever seen, but never did I find myself bursting to get home in the evening to watch it for the night. This is the greatest TV show ever, there I said it!

I'm just starting season 3 now and although I'm aware there's 5 seasons I'm glad because it seems to me like they'll have finished it on a high, rather than scraping another 3 or 4 seasons out of it unnecessary and ruining it, which many shows do these days.

    Bring on seasons 3, 4 and 5 :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

How bloody quick did you get through the second series?? I'm just startin the second series now.

Slightly weird how at certain points things are meant to have happened between episodes and you're meant to cop them i.e. a character not talking to another character and suddenly they're best mates in the next episode.

I'm just praying I don't go over my d/l limit soon.

I think it took me two nights to get through the second series mate. No exaggeration, but I just couldn't help myself from watching the next episode, and the next episode, and the next episode, and so on :pac: Unfortunately I have quite a bit of work to be doing but I keep putting it off to watch more of this.

I think it's really easy to relate to the characters, the acting is great, everything fits in to place perfectly.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of way it develops in the next few seasons as I'd imagine that the players will be graduating high school etc so I'm looking forward to seeing how that all works out!

Loved that show too, have yet to watch the final season, looking forward to it. What about the theme tune, way cool, the way it starts off slow, builds up into this crescendo, pefect for the kind of drama it is.

I've flown through seasons 1-4 since I discovered it like 2 months ago but it's definitely in my top 3 shows ever! Kinda glad I only found out about it after it ended because waiting week to week for a new episode would have been terrible.

It actually got me into American football and now I try watch an NFL game every week or so:) although at the start I had no idea what the rules were, but now it's awesome!

Kinda devastated I've only got 13 episodes left! And yes, Riggins is the man.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

Just finished watching season 4, a few things I want to say about the show so far before I watch season 5:
    *** Warning - Contains Spoliers ***

I've really enjoyed it so far. The writer has developed the story so well from the beginning.

My favourite character would have to be Matt Saracen. I thought the story was great how he
went from backup QB to a State Champion, got the girl of his dreams and really shone despite all the adversity he faced.
    . I have to say I was
so gutted when he and Julie broke up for what seems like for good at the end of season 4, but I still hold some hope that in the final season they'll get back together by either her going to Chicago or him moving to an art college near her, because he really deserves it after everything he's been through
    .

I couldn't stand Riggins at the beginning. I even called him a twat on here IIRC and a few posters were saying that if I thought that way that this certainly wasn't the show for me. Well, my opinion now
couldn't be any different to be honest.
    . He's shown that
deep down he's a really good person and I love the way his character developed.

    Coach is
    fantastic,
    as is Ms.Taylor.
They're just a real loving football family to be honest. I love the way that they help everyone out as best they can and always try to do the right thing. Coach loves football and it would be great to see a college job work out for him as the TMU job just wasn't for him at the time (end of season 1).

I'll speak about some of the characters such as Landrey when I finish the whole show which will probably be tomorrow if my current viewing habits keep going :pac:

One criticism I do have, is that
I would have liked to see more of the football players end up going to college, playing ball and making it, but from what I've seen so far it seems that only Smash has a chance I guess that's my habit of wanting a happy ending in these sort of shows though!

One of my favourite scenes in the whole show so far has to be where
Coach is playing with Gracey and there's a football game on the TV, you hear the commentator say ''well I know he shouldn't be starting yet, but Smash Williams really is making a name for himself here''. It's only a very short scene but that was a nice touch IMO.

I hope at the end of the show it's ended in such a way that we find out exactly what way the characters go (the main one's, but it would be nice to see how
Street, Tyra, and some of the smaller characters as the show develops are getting on these days too
) and that it's mainly a happy ending for my favourite character Matt. Please tell me I won't be disappointed :)

Fantastic show though, seriously it has taken over all my free time for the past fortnight. It'd be great to talk some more about it with you all!

    Cheers :)
