Both IPL and Laser both are effective on dark hair as the way it works is by picking up on the pigment and destroying it that way. To be completely honest any laser clinic that takes your money telling you that light hair is ideal for treatment are conning you.

Electrolysis is effective on lighter hair as it doesn't pick up on the pigment but use both chemicals and heat to destroy the hair follicle. However, electrolysis can be quite painful and takes a very long time so is not suitable for large areas.

Also - I'm not saying you're doing it, it's just something i picked up in your post and have experienced but there is NOTHING as irritating as a client coming into a clinic and telling us - who've gone to great lengths to perform the treatment - that we are wrong as they read on the Internet that it was possible.

If you refuse to believe your therapist, and contradict her -- you're going to end up wasting your money.

Laser is less effective on people that are darker simply because it's all about the pigment. Regardless what you read else where.

thanx girls, might look into electrolisis so - it's only underarms i'm concerned with! not at all storminateacup - she had a leaflet for a machine that claimed to sort out light hair - but she said that she didn't think it worked. but since she's a general beautician and it was a good while ago i was wondering if there was any updates, or if a business that specialises in lazor was using anything different

+1 on electrolysis. I had a couple of beauticians mention it to me before I really considered it; I wouldn't find it any worse than waxing & I'm not good at dealing with the pain! It has taken a good while & it is expensive, but its looking much better. As the beauticians will tell you, you have to be patient & dont pluck! :D

what part of your body are you getting? and how many sessions? can't find much info through google. cheers rhapsody

You usually have about sessions that last maybe 30 minutes, twice a week depending on how large the area is.

Then you return for follow up sessions when the hair grows back. It's not a fun process - you cannot pluck, wax, epilate or shave the area during treatment and are supposed to cut the hair should it get too long.

Nobody can say for sure how long it takes but don't expect anything Major in the next 6-7 months at least.

However - Electrolysis is the ONLY proven method of hair removal. Laser/IPL should not be sold as permanent hair removal as all laser can only be guaranteed to show at least an 75% hair reduction. Now for most people, it's hair removal but it's not guaranteed to be forever.

    2nd post again ha, sorry.

Try googling "blend Epilation" or "blend electrolysis" and see if that's any better for you.

Chin. Been going for about 2 yrs I think, originally 10min every week, now 5 min every 5 or 6 weeks. Very costly but I thought it was a more permanent solution than waxing & it looks so much better now.

really apreciate the advice storminateacup, i've been getting my underarms waxed for 3 years, no shaving in between and am still only getting about 6 days that i could show them in public - people claim it lasts up to a month but for me that leaves me hairy for 75per cent of my life, haha :) checking out google now... thanks again

Ive been getting lower leg, hollywood and underarm done for the past 2 months ( have second appointment this week) and Ive only had to shave 2 maybe 3 times, big difference from 1/2 times a week. I absolutly love the results, the hairs even flick out when exfoliating. Making the deal even sweeter it was a living social deal so got the whole lot for under 150 yo yos.
Bot sorry I didnt start it yrs ago
