Foot Cramp

I went back running over the weekend after a 6 month layoff. Before that I wasn't much of a jogger but was fairly fit from a mixture of activities (football, boxing, tennis, some running). Anyway, trying build fitness back from next to nothing.

I've been taking it very easy getting back into - 4km on Saturday, 5km on Sunday. Everything was fine over the weekend, was expecting slight soreness the day after but it never came. But I went out last night and about 1.5km my foot started cramping (inside and outside of sole) plus a very slight cramp in lower leg region. I slowed down a little and then picked it back up but it was still there. Just wondering is there any particular reason for this as I had been fine over the first two runs and was going at the same pace.

I apparently have flat feet, though to look at them, they actually seem fine, it would take a physio to spot it.

I wear insoles to correct them, because the flat feet were causing knee problems, but I still get foot cramps sometimes. I don't run because of shin splints (again caused by the feet), I mostly notice foot cramps at random times in the gym, when I'm lifting, and often when there's no lower leg involvement at all.

I always just ignored it and carried on, assuming it was related to my flat feet, but I'd be interested to know if anyone knows the definite cause, or a solution.
