Glenn Whelan, Marc Wilson and Jon Walters starting for Stoke

I'll be shouting for the magpies.
I hope they keep up this form for the season just to spite everyone that is overlooking them when talking about champions league places. :)

I hope I'm wrong but I think reality will hit home for Newcastle tonight - 2 - 1 Stoke.

Would love to see the geordies win, purely to see them in third and keep them in the top 4 a little while longer upsetting the status quo!

    Demba Ba on fire,

Was set up for him to score after that failed Stoke move!

I think Newcastle have a chance tonight, Stoke arent the best when they have to attack a game and put another team under pressure, they are much more suited to counter attacking, getting stuck in

Stoke's pitch seems to have being made shorter and narrower going by the old lines still visible? Is it tactical to kept the game tight and compact?

With regards the Irish players playing, i don't feel it will make any difference to Trapp's plans. Whelan could have a shocker and still will be first on the team sheet. Trapp doesn't like Best. Walters will probably figure given Long and Doyle being unavailable for 1st leg.

I think it's something to do with the Europa League requirements

As Mars bar says, it is a Europa League thing, the green lines you can see are the minimum required size for Europa games,

Premier League rules allow for shorter narrower pitches, which Stoke use to play to their strengths.

Commentators said it was due to Europa lge rules that a pitch has to be a certain length & width. Obviously Stoke want it narrower and seem to want it shorter too, so make it as small as they can for Prem League games.

Very poor stuff by Stoke, they are terrible so far. Glenn Whelan has given the ball away a lot as usual, and Crouch had had a shocker so far too.
    Newcastle looking solid enough.

Greatest miss kick to set up Ba ever!

What price Ba for the hat-trick?

Hope he does, it might rescue my Fantasy fbl teams week.

This would be another great result for Newcastle, amazing start they've had and it keeps on going it seems!

Pardew has them set up really well, They are always going to create chances, and Ba has been on fire of late.

I sat miserably watching the last Ba hat-trick, although I hope he gets another one tonight.

Alan Partridge is doing some job there

Tactically pardew has it spot on tonight. Jonas and raylor keeping pennant quiet. Simpson having a stormer on etherington. Obertan always the out ball and giving newcastle the break and breaking up stokes pressure play. delaps throws are the only worry but Newcastle currently in control.

Great to see Newcastle winning and especially Stoke being beaten. Hopefully Newcastle can go and get six or seven and every other side Stoke face this season too :)

I don't even know any Newcastle fans who have predicted the start to the season that they have had.

Winning 2-0 Stoke at HT at one of the toughest places to go in English football, without one of out best midfielders in Tioté - I think that tells us a fair bit about this side already; despite our Premier League position and unbeaten record in the PL. ;)

Matt__Buck on Twitter: "Demba Ba has scored more than Balotelli, Suarez and Hernandez and is only 3 behind RVP, quietly prolific."

    :eek::eek:

Surprised by this tbh, had us (NUFC) down to loose today. Stoke have successfully bullied us extremely effectively in our recent games. We just could not match them physically. Today we are just not getting pushed around and are comfortably playing our own game

Pardew has really installed a team ethic in those players.

Given I didn't rate him before, I must give the guy his due.

Have to agree, he has done an amazing job so far.
Could not understand what they were at getting rid of Hughton. And thought it was even more mental when they got him in. But has shocked everyone, including the Newcastle fans as to how well he has done.

Not just the manager, the transfers too, getting rid of Carroll, Nolan and Barton I thought was madness but they are a much better side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,723 ✭✭✭bazual

Really impressed how guthrie has stuck to his task in the tiote role in front of back 4. He is usually trying to get forward but not today, fair play to him, the role suits him.

pardew had nothing to do with those sales.....

The new signings are down to graeme Carr if reports are to beleived

Aside from that absolutely credit to Pardew for installing a team ethic and he has been spot on tactically mostly....

They also lost Enrique too who is quality, prob Liverpools buy of the summer.
The likes of Tiote, Cabeye, Ba were great cheap enough replacements.

Its all going well for them now, but thats not the Newcastle way...there has to be a disaster of some sort to ruin it all coming soon.

Newcastle have had a nice run of fixtures to start with, lets wait until after they play united, city and chelsea in the next few weeks and see where they are at xmas.

silly challenge to make in the box though...if he did that outside the box it would have been a free kick and nothing would have been made of it.

    defo a pen

Well taken peno, this sub is bad for Newcastle. I know from being there a few months ago they hated Perch there. Very dodgy full back.
