Short school skirts

    Came across this article today.

For those too lazy to click through, two girls were harassed on public transport by some guy looking up their skirts., while they were wearing school uniform.
The police's reaction was to relay advise them to wear different clothes and change into uniform when they got to school.
    {questions are now odd because I thought it was the principal's advice - derp}

Is it just me who thinks this is, well, weird? Surely as the principal, he'd have some influence over what the uniform was? Couldn't they change it?

I mean, if the skirts are too short for public transport, are they not also too short for the school?

Just seemed like a very odd reaction to me.

Yeah, what did this pervy guy look like?

Apparently "a skinny, white man in his 30s, about 5-foot-6 with messy, light-brown hair. He was wearing glasses with thick, black frames, light-coloured blue jeans, a dark denim jacket, a blue T-shirt and construction boots."
They have no pictures though. Sorry!

I was hoping for something more pervy.

    He wasn't even wearing a mac :(.

Well the thing is, the skirt length could be the appropriate length for school, its just the girls could have them shortend up higher. I remember in my secondary school (this is only like 4/5 years ago) The girls skirt was supposed to be just below the knee, but most of the ones I knew would arrive in with them shortened well above the knee. Some looked more like belts than skirts :P

Not that us fellas were complaining :pac:

You'd be complaining if it was the thunder thighs girls had them shortened. =/

but surely the solution if the skirts are rolled up is to enforce the uniform rules in the school, not suggest they wear different clothes while commuting?

In Japan they had Hana-Densha (花電車) in the 70s.
They still have "women only" cars so the wimmins won't have to get groped on their way to/from work.

We just tended to look the other way when we saw them approaching :pac:

Very true, but it depends on the school. Some will try to enforce it and you'll still have students ignoring it as most times they won't have anything said to them. In my school the staff gave up trying to enforce it cause they got nowhere, even by sending letters home to parents.

The advice was from the cops and relayed to the parents by the school , not as stated above.

The cops said: Students, especially females, should consider not wearing their school uniform when riding (on) the TTC.”:)

Sure, it's a solution for the perverts on public transport, but what about the teenage boys whose only joy during a long day of learning algebra is the short skirts of their classmates?
Won't somebody please think of the children?

This alleged incident happened in Canada, so it's not really very relevant to Ireland.

However, since I have spent a large part of my life in the Nordic countries, I can't figure out why school uniforms are required at all. They are only an extra expense item for parents.

I've heard from some friends who surf porn sites that women dressed in uniforms (nurses, policewomen) and also in schoolgirl tartan skirts are very popular. Not that I'd ever surf those sites myself, honest, really ...;););)

I guess there will always be pervs trying to look up women's skirts and it is those guys who are in the wrong, not the girls.:)

It must be a Canadian thing to blame the victim. Wasn't it somewhere in Canada that a police chief's dumb remarks about women dressing sexily sparked off a wave of "slut walks" all over the world?

In case anyone hasn't mentioned it, Japan have introduced a system of segregated carriages to thwart their legendary army of perverts that roam the country.

That's just a fantasy, it's not a comment normally associated with male students who would have been involved from the beginning in that environment.

Sometimes, visiting male students from say an all male college or one of those schools who insist on the nun's uniform for girls ~ but it's not coming from student who went through the experience daily.

There is an ongoing study of course, some schools in my locality have gone from a knee length to mini skirt [my the girls' themselves] to mandatory angle length in an effort to reduce the instances of pregnancies during secondary school female students.

We see what they wear when they go out for the night, and while I don't know the figures, it seems the longer skirts at school have had at least no effect on pregnancies, but, unless I'm more aware of them, it seems to me that pregnancies have actually increased.

Probably another ten years will tell.

They have also introduced separate carriages for women on commuter trains in Mumbai in an attempt to reduce the incidence of "eve teasing", which is the national sport of groping women on public transport.;)

However, it has not proved a perfect solution, because hijras (hermaphrodites/eunuchs), who wear women's clothes, also use these carriages, and the girls are still getting goosed.

I suppose the moral of the story is that where there's a will, there's a way.:)

And some of you probably still think Dublin's public transport system is the worst in the world.:D

Japan is an enigma though, women could be technically assaulted in the same way that Italian males would pinch a woman's bum.

It's not always sexually orientated, this behaviour by men is more a domination display.

In all walks of life we have 'customs' one in Ireland was the wolf whistle, it is banned but, just as many women in Italy like their bums pinched, many liked the wolf whistle too. But an unknown number disliked the practice and many felt threatened and action was taken.

Many young wans roll up the skirts at the waistband on the way to school and then roll them down as they reach school. Exception is Limerick city where the fashion is to have skirts trailing on the ground.

D'you ever the the uniforms they wear on Home and Away and Neighbours? the skirts barely cover their arses.

I always pity fat Australian girls when I see those uniforms.

    Schoolgirls' skirts are quite short.
They can cause your pants to distort.
    But you must refrain,
from groping them on a train,
cos you'll likely end up in court.

In reality id say the 'pervert' or as we preffer to be called , 'education participants enthusiasts' is probably just targeting the girls in the uniforms regardless of skirt length,

Oh ffs it's what young girls do.

The nuns introduced these nasty pleated tents so we wouln't wear too short skirts. But Deirdre Madden's "All about Home Economics" came in particularly useful in figuring out how to roll up and stitch these balloons of anti-immorality material.

Just like teenage boys, teenage girls are testing out any way to be considered an attractive adult to the opposite sex.

This does not excuse any perv who is old enough to know better to take advantage of this and have a good auld' slimeball leer. Or worse.
