    Statement....or question

Hard to judge day 1 - with using it more than your average day. Also remember batteries need a few cycles before showing true performance.
Coming from a 3GS - based on todays use - don't expect any improvement.
My daily charging habits will not change

I have 3GS at moment and come midday I need to recharge, and again in evening.

Was hoping 4s would be better!

Could be for you - my 3GS was only 9 months old

Have a read of this. It would appear that it is a wide spread problem.

I was a bit worried after the first few days as the battery was going fairly fast even when just sitting idle. I dunno whether its settled down as some say or a combination of me turning off a couple of useless (to me) things in settings but its great now considering after 2 weeks with it and i'm still in the picking it up to mess with it phase.

I mean Micky O'Leary banned staff from re-charging their phones in their Ryanair offices ...so it must be at least a few pence per cycle.

I've found it lasts a lot longer than my 18 month old 3GS so I'm happy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,135 ✭✭✭fifth

I've found it on par with my iphone 4. Also, the screen on my 4S is better than my 4, no yellow tint and much better viewing angles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭Doylers

I did a full charge yesterday morning. HIt 2% a minute ago after running it down from 10%. Going to do a full charge now just to cycle the battery a bit. I also noticed the phone do 2 re-springs on day 1. Will keep an eye on thats aswell.

    This could help.

Apparently location settings can be a problem in ios5. My iPhone 4 didn't seem to have a problem but I switched this piece off anyway

Checking mine now, "setting time zone" has a purple icon. Interesting, that means its currently active. But the phone hast moved at all in the last hour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭ashleey

Exactly. Mine had a purple icon and I haven't changed mast as the phone hasn't moved. It can't hurt to turn it off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Had the purple icon too on 'Setting Time Zone'
Switched that off, seems it helped with battery life, I think.

Somewhat related to battery life, has anyone else noticed their usage time creep up by a couple of minutes when the phone is on standby?

Example: this morning it was usage 39 mins, standby 49. I put it on standby and when I check it again it's usage is 41 mins...

Alright I take back what I said, it's dropping quite a bit faster than my iPhone 4. Will try the location services toggle.

FFS My old nokia only needed to be charged once a fortnight. After a day and a half, the battery on this thing is deader than Steve Jobs. The Screen, GPS, and wifi eats the power like Steve Wozniak as an all you can eat Chinese buffet.

Did your old Nokia have a nice screen, gps and wifi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,227 ✭✭✭Thinkingaboutit

Mine seems fine, better than the 3G I had. My old Nokia Xpressmusic had a fair few features and a long lasting battery.

There is no need to make disrespectful comments when posting about the topic at hand

Nice respectful comment there about your battery life. Clap Clap. You're very witty.

Not sure about through PC, but through mains:
power adaptor says .15A which at 230V is 34.5 Watts.
It takes about 3 hours to charge which means it uses .1 KiloWatt Hours.
    I KiloWatt hour is about €0.15 so .1 is €0.015, i.e. 1.5 cents.

I adjusted the time zone setting as soon as I picked up my 4s so can't compare before and after, but today is the first normal days usage since I picked it up on friday. I was using it a lot over the weekend as with any new phone. Today in work with heavy (and I mean heavy- almost constant) 3G usage since 9am, I'm now at 55%. With my 3GS I would now be circa 15% so it's a huge improvement.

Almost the same here. Been using it heavily since 8am - web browsing, listening to radio streams and making and taking several calls and it's at 56%. Pretty decent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,042 ✭✭✭Groinshot

Browsed for three hours on 3G yesterday, streamed 3 hours of radio, played games, took phone calls, Spent last night messing with siri, and got lost on my way back to college today and had to spend 15 mins on maps, all with 3G, and location services. Full days heavy usage and just got my 10% battery remaining, so I'm happy.

As long as it lasts the day, I don't care to be honest

Quick question, I have a docking station. Does leaving iphones charging all night affect their battery life?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier in the thread. But there is a known issue with the battery.

To improve battery life disable the automatic daylight savings switching. I think you may need to disable the sync time as well, but not 100% on it.

The following will impact battery on the 4 (not sure about the 4s), in order of draining.

    - 3G
    - Bluetooth
    - Wifi
    - Notifications.

Disable what you like. I disable the 3G unless I need to use it and the battery lasts a few days longer (around a week).

The replacement phone I got today has a much better battery than the old one.

Old one on 82% and it doesn't have a sim. New one on 92%.

Terrible. Just terrible. I left mine in my kitbag during a tournament last weekend with 80% battery life. After 6 hours I took it out to check on it. It had gone dead!

You must be leaving apps running in the background if that's the case. If not, drain the battery a couple more times and do a recharge. If the battery continues to drain as quickly have it looked at.

    Ok I'll try that, thanks.

Anyone know whether it's bad to leave it plugged in all night when theres still 40% left?
I usually let it go dead towards night time and leave it in all night so its getting a full charge but not sure whether its bad for the battery.

Its just that awkward percentage where its not quite time to plug it in but i know it wont last tomorrow if i dont.

When I got my iPhone 4 I actually watched the battery percentage fall by the minute. I switched off push and it was better. I then deleted the gmail and other exchange accounts that had loaded originally by transferring everything from my 3GS backup. Then I recreated the email, calendar, etc from exchange and switched push mail back on and it's fine now. I think there is some corruption problem with exchange accounts from backups

I'm generally in the house mostly all day with wifi on. (I switched off push email and most of the other power drains). Since having to swap out the crappy Eircom Zyxel router (which was causing huge trouble with wifi devices not staying connected), my 4S battery is lasting MUCH longer!

Now I'm wondering if that was also the trouble with my old 3GS... but of course it gave me a good reason to upgrade!

Newer batteries don't have issues with charging mid-full. Actually I think (IIRC) letting them go dead is bad for them in the long run.

Parent company in USA, of where I work, have sent two batches of 4S phones back, because of battery problems. Now gone back to the 4 version.

Apparently, BIG problems being encountered worldwide.

Before I return my old iPhone 4S I took a final screen shot of my old one and the new replacement 4S.

Both phones set up exactly the same from exactly the same back up.

    Old one is no sim.

    WiFi is on

    Bluetooth is off

    Location services off

Hotmail on exchange set to manual

    Auto time zone disabled

    Ping off

    3G on

    iCloud never set up

    Photo stream never set up

iTunes wifi Sync never set up and is off on the computer

There is a speck of something between the glass and the lcd, looks like s dead bug.

I posted some pictures in the Belfast thread.

Also I wasn't happy with the quality of the lcd, the new one is so much better.

I didn't realise how bad the battery was until I compared it with the new phone.

I decided to let the battery drain completely last night and did a full overnight charge. I checked it this morning and it was at 97%. Apparently after it's fully charged it stops charging after a bit of time and a plug icon replaces the charge/lightning bolt icon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Tell you what has impressed me, the lack of battery power that the MP3 player uses. I bought a 64gb version to replace my iPod and have had it on almost non-stop for the last four hours, during which the battery has only dropped by 8%.
