    I'm tempted... it's a capactive screen I assume?

Is ram a little low? would this be ok for watching mkv etc.

Does anybody know if supports flash?

that'll just be you then, it's working fine for me and seems to be for others too.

it's also plastered all over the main hmv website page, it would be hard to miss.

there's a pretty good review of it here: http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/5237/archos-101-internet-tablet-review

Yep. I had one when they first came out. The screen isn't great, you have to be pretty much straight in front of it. It played avi files (using standard players from the Android market) fine. For the price it's a good buy.

was just down in Tesco and they are selling the 8GB one for €200 so that is indeed a great price.

I remember reading somewhere that HMV ship things from Guernsey and therefore there are custom/vat chargers applied.
Does anyone know if this is the case for this Archos tablet?
    Cheers

    Good call..... 21% plus €5.. that's an extra £27.62 or €31.82 in vat+ €36.82.

Total cost now €187.82... not looking like such a bargain anymore :(

were the headphones expensive? Over €28 or whatever the vat limit is?

the guy here was saying they marked his package with a yellow sticker to alert customs, so if they are still doing that it'd be hard for them to miss it....

you can buy a chinese tablet for 50 euro, upgrade the OS very easily (modroid is very good) and have something to do watch movies with. see focalprice tablet thread. battery life not amazing admittedly.

I emailed HMV support regarding the location that they ship this item from and they replied indicating that it was a warehouse in the UK...good news!

The problem is that now I am unable to add the archos to my basket...when I click add to basket nothing happens....anyone else having the same issue?

    Cheers
    JJ

EDIT: now seems to be gone from the site!

You can get a 10" Archos (I think) in Power City for €199.95 in Blanch. Not a bad price.

The 7" one is the same price AFAIK.

    In Power City?

There is a display of tablets around a table when you walk through the door in front of you.

HMV Grafton St. had them today. Was going to buy one but it seemed a bit pointless when I've an android phone already, so I didn't actually check they were in stock, but they were on display at the front door so you'd think so.

All out in the Square in Tallaght, I got some of the last ones. They have a few on hold so if they aren't collected... you might have a chance.

None in Liffy, Dundrum of Blanch. Liffy and Dundrum do have some on hold for people too though.

Posting this on the one i got today. Not bad at all for the money and plays avi files right out of the gate. Only downside so far is the viewing angle but i was aware of that before purchase.

Its about what it should be costing tbh, its a 2.2 tablet, it is only a year old to be fair but things are changing rapidly on the tablet market, I think the next 6 months are going to see a huge price drop on tablets if Amazons gamble pays off, so I wouldn't feel under huge pressure to try and pick one of these up, its pretty likely we'll see other older tablets getting the same treatment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,183 ✭✭✭jobless

do these play flash?.... i'm pretty sure i saw this one in PC World yesterday for 150..... the guy in the shop told me people were returning them because they dont play flash...and also they didnt have access to android app store

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,026 ✭✭✭Amalgam

As supplied by Archos? I don't think so.. there has been talk of Archos updating, no idea if they delivered on the various promises to supply Flash. The processor on that generation of Archos is a bit long in the tooth at this stage.

Unlikely to get one now, bah. I'd have gladly used one as a browser. No illusions about what the device is about.

Surprisingly, still quite fiddly to Root these, have a good Google online *before updating*, as the latest firmware is still resistant to a permanent Root solution.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 413 ✭✭The Left Hand Of God

As far as I know my missus has Flash and the App market installed on mine hers.

And she wouldn't be the most savvy with that kinda thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭Pique

I've one and I have the full Market on it (need to download Apps for Archos to enable the functionality).

Flash worked out of the box.

It's nice and light (although not the most robust feeling....having said that, it's not got damaged by my ham-fistedness) has HDMI out, MicroSD slot and USB port. I've only got the 8gb one but with a HP 16GB memory stick from Tesco recently, I can store movies on that and watch it fine.

    Battery life is pretty good.

The browser is fine, but the bookmarks are a bit of a pain to get to (menu - bookmarks - tiled page of bookmarks) but it can have multiple windows open.

I've the Kindle app on it too and Angry Birds. It's perfect for both.

    Cases ain't cheap though.

Try hitting menu when in the grid of bookmarks. You might be able to change it to a list. You could always change your browser too. Have a google and see which browsers from the market work on the tablet.

Flash working fine here, although I'm not sure which version. I was able to get onto marketplace in minutes via a quick Google.
