Phantom/inaccessible pages in threads....

I've noticed recently that some very long threads (such as the Leinster Team Talk/Gossip/Rumours Thread) sometimes display as having an extra page than is actually present in the thread. I have seen other examples of this, but this is the only one I can recall/observe this morning.

For instance at the moment this morning the above thread lists as having 258 pages, but any time I try to access page 258 by the link at the top of the page, page 257 loads, suggesting that there aren't any actual posts on page 258.

This will always happen with long threads.

When you make a post, the code just increments the reply count for the thread. When posts are deleted/held for moderation/etc the count isn't always correctly updated so vBulletin's solution is that every 10 posts it does a full recount to fix it. These full recounts are very expensive for long threads so once there's more than a thousand posts in a thread we delay doing a recount and only do it every hundred posts.

Thought it might be related to deletions and the likes alright, but wasn't aware of the performance reasoning behind it. Thanks for the insight, makes a lot of sense!

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
