    Breifne!

Is this a man's name or a woman's or unisex?

And am I spelling it right?

    Thanks in advance, folks.

According to google, and numerous baby-name sites, it's a boy's name.

I've known a few men called Breifne. We had a girl with the same name in my class at school, but the spelling was Breffney. I think it is unisex, though, and is normally Breifne.

The reason I'm asking is I'm writing a complaint letter about a bank official I've only spoken to on the phone. Definitely a woman and definitely called Breifne, but when I googled to check the spelling, it is supposed to be a man's name. So, is there a correct woman's spelling or something like that? I don't want to derail the force of my righteous invective with a typo. :)

I think it generally is Breifne, even for a woman. I may be corrected on that. Wishing you good luck with your righteous invective, though. :D

I've only ever heard it used for girls, but according to some people here it's for boys too.

I've heard it used for both guys and girls too. Spelling seems to be the same for both.

I used to play hockey with a girl that spelt it Breffni - That or Breffney would be your best bet for a girl I'd say!

it's a man's name, as is Naoise, but some people don't bother to check, just like the sound of it.
