Serious amount of wet things in the library today. Luckily I had my rain gear on me because I would've been drenched otherwise!

Apparently this is Dundrum shopping centre tonight:

Does anyone know if this is real? It's not too far from UCD. It's unbelievable. It must be a storm surge of some sort.

Yeah it's real, theres worse quality ones from different angles. I really should finish my lab report but the flood bantz on boards/facebook is almost as good as the snow bantz.

    Wow thats crazy.

What happened in the library from water from the Roof down or from the floor up?

Bit harsh on the Yummy Drummy Mummies :pac:

Anybody been around campus this evening? Are the footpaths etc OK? I wonder will it lead to closures like during the snow?

It's times like these that I'm glad to be a North-sider.

Not very surprising - where Dundrum TC is now was always prone to flooding... the Dundrum Bowl that used to be there was done for by repeated floods, insurance stopped paying out after it kept happening. There's a river under the road which is under the bridge now, it must have risen up again depite all the engineering.

I got out this afternoon before it got really bad, has the library flooded? What's the lake looking like?

Edit: Apparently between the library and belgrove. No idea if true, so take with a pinch of salt until confirmed.

OK. Is UCD going to be open tomorrow or not? Is the whole place under water? Should I bother coming across town on the bus or should I take my canoe?

Supposed to be between the library and Belgrove. Too dark to see really. Wherever it is is pretty bad.

That is the back of the Library alright, you can see the Belgrove gates and the sign on the right. The grey railing on the right is above the little stream beside Belgrove, it must have burst it's banks.

Right so, should we expect the usual email from UCD tomorrow at lunch time telling us that further lectures are cancelled?

I was looking forward to waterproofing up and cycling in through the rain :( Looks like I'll need to get some SCUBA gear instead.

Might only be floods in a few spots, really depends on what it looks like around 6am tomorrow.

How is it flooded before it got dark?

    Serious rain in UCD?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,132 ✭✭✭Killer Pigeon

    RTÉ: http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/1024/weather.html
2140: RTÉ's Fran McNulty says the N11 under the UCD flyover is impassable.

If the flooding doesn't stop (it will get worse because high-tide hasn't arrived yet), this could potentially effect bus services like the 46A, 145, 39A, 41X, etc.. tomorrow, though let's home that the water recedes by then.

This is annoying I wanted to get my damn lab finished off.

Some river or drain burst its banks perhaps.

Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?

    Hmmm yes I would Kent.

(This reminds me of the will they-wont they cancel college during the snow last year. I travelled over an hour in only for them to make their minds up and cancel as I arrived :( )

Same, I had Into to QM the day the exams were cancelled. It was the last exam session before the exams were cancelled. Just my luck. I mean it was a disgrace that they allowed some of the exams were allowed to go ahead that day. It took me 5-6 hours to get home.

The same will happen this year, and some meteorologists think the snow could be worse this year (google "Piers Corbyn" - he's an astrophysicist/meteorologist, he's made some of the most accurate weather models to date).

I'm doing that now! It confuses me to the max daily!

The snow postponed my intro to programming module which was actually a blessing because I wasn't prepared and probably wouldn't have passed it at that time

I've seen another angle of that car photo taken by someone living on campus so I'm pretty sure it's real. Don't know what to think about tomorrow really, been told that the N11 near UCD is impassable but no email yet from the college. I blame the SU:P:P

It's clear maintaining the storm drains just isn't a priority, you just can't get good representation these days:P

Found another car pic from Stephan Darcy:

I walked from the library to Glenomena after 10pm tonight - no flooding whatsoever - didn't head behind the library to see where the car is supposedly stuck. Highly doubt it'll be closed tomorrow!

UCDSU: "There is an extreme blizzard outside with 12 inches of snow on the UCD campus. There are also reports of severe flooding around the parameter of UCD. I suggest we close down the campus for the safety of staff and students."

UCD Admin: "Ah, sure they'll be grand. If they complain, send in the dogs."

    UCDSU: "Yes sir."

Heh, SU got ravaged on their facebook page during the snow last year. Felt sorry for the person/people who had to stay up all night taking **** over something they have minimum control over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Pandoras Twist

Left UCD just before 9. N11 was ok enough, UCD campus was pretty allright too.

Forecast for tomorrow is dry enough so there's no way campus will be closed

    :/

If that's so then, due to the elevation of the lake, the science centre and the car park beside the O'Reilly Hall would also be flooded.
