Need good advice on buying weights

    Hi all fitness experts,

Ok, suddenly work commitments mean I have to start buffing up (I'm an actor). The role requires me to get pretty ripped and I need to do it as soon as possible. I don't need to be really big or anything but I need to be lean, muscular and with a fairly impressive six pack if possible.

I'm 5' 8 and am about 11 and a half stone. I run and play sports but haven't done weights in years. Going to the gym doesn't suit and I need to buy weights and develop some kind of regime at home.

Where can I get good value weights for home use, what will I need and how much cost etc?

    Thanks.

    http://www.irish-lifting.com/
An Irish site. Offers free delivery on orders over €500. If ordering from here, you'll probably want an Olympic Weightset and a good bench. Another option would be a cheaper (but good quality) bench and a power rack with the Olympic Weightset.

An English site. Something like http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/premium-strength-package.php is a very good option. If you join Fatcheese.ie and buy it via their website, you get a 10% discount. They charge £42 for delivery to Ireland meaning, after the discount, this package would cost you about €770.

If your budget and/or space are low, you could do a lot worse than this http://www.buykettlebelldublin.com/workshops at only €39.99 (if you’re located in Dublin). I’ve read reviews from people that have done this course and it sounds very good. You can then buy heavier kettlebells as and when you need them. If you’re not near Dublin, you could look for Kettlebell classes near you – they’re all over the place these days. Having read good reviews about Kettlebells, I plan to take some classes next year and buy a few myself.

Personally, I went for the Power Rack option with an Olympic weightset and bench. The reason for this is that I want to squat and prefer the safety of a Power Rack when working out on my own.

You would be foolish to buy a power rack, bench and weights set for a temporary thing, you just need a door pullup bar and maybe a set of ab straps. Diet will be the most important thing to get lean.

chin up bar, set of dumb bells and a bench get most if not all your body done with that equipment

Good equipment holds its value well, if you got stuff second hand you could sell it on afterwards, maybe even make a profit if you got a good deal to begin with.
