Not looking too good out there at the moment. Latest twitter gubbins claims that while there's a pitch inspection at 5pm, UCD expect it to be a formality. I'm not sure myself, haven't ever really seen the Belfield Bowl in heavy rain and I've no idea how it'll hold up. Either way it looks like we'll need umbrellas.

I'll be astonished if it goes ahead, all the approach roads would have to be clear etc, the muddy hills that people stand on..

When can it be rearrranged for at the shortest notice? Surely not tomorrow or Wednesday..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,351 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Can't see it going ahead tonight at all, I'm in Donnybrook and it's been absolutely torrential for the last three hours. There's floods everywhere now.

Wednesday will have to be the hope but like you say it'll be very, very difficult to arrange it all by then. The only other option would be to play it after the Galway match, witch will throw up all kinds of issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,798 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Was going to go to it tonight. Im in work so no windows, from all accounts its woeful.

    In dundrum btw.

If Rovers beat Galway, I think it wouldn't matter much when it's played. They might just do that and gamble that Rovers will win and then however late the UCD game is on, it doesn't affect the league or disadvantage anyone.

If they delayed this, then they'd have to delay the Galway game which could disadvantage them in the play-off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,351 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

That's probably the only thing that might save things - we're almost universally expected to beat Galway so even if we do have to play UCD after that, it won't really matter.

Would be great to win the league in Tallaght too.

I'm in UCD at the moment and can't see it going ahead to be honest. It's been raining torrentially for the past 5 or 6 hours pretty much non stop. All the roads around the pitch have rivers running down them.
Pity as I was gonna take a walk down and watch it.

I can honestly see the LOI pushing to have the game played, just to save themselves the hassle of rearrangements, etc,

Karl Sheppard just tweeted saying he heard it's on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,351 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Whatever about the pitch being playable, surely fan safety has to be an issue. There's flooding in most of the roads around UCD, traffic is going to be insane come 6pm and there's only 500 seats in Belfield - everyone else has to stand on a grassy hill.

There's no way our (GUFC) match against Rovers can be postponed without the play offs also being postponed. Surely even the LOI won't make things that complicated.

If the UCD game can't be played today it'll be played before Friday IMO

He said "wonder will the game be on?".

It was something along the lines of "hearing game is on!!" but the tweet has now been deleted. Must've been told otherwise or told to keep shtum.

    ShamrockRovers Shamrock Rovers F.C.
Referee Neil Doyle to conduct further inspection, expect news in 10 mins or so. Original inspection found pitch playable with some work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭leposean

Neil Doyle is currently discussing things with T.Sheridan who's the UCD Match coordinator. Couple of big wigs from the LOI and ISRS are both in the referee with them now discussing it

Yep, game off. It's going to get messy now if they can't arrange it for Tuesday or Wednesday.

Referee's told to play the game tonight by the league, pitch was inspected and they said no way, league wanted it to go ahead if any possibility and ref's just told them not a hope that tomorrow would be the earliest, providing rain dosent go like this all night and tomorrow

Fairly shocking if true. No regard for the supporters if this is true. Fair play ref!

Remember the Mons Bray play off game? That was played in ridiculous conditions too.

Second leg, the downpour before kickoff was incredible. I was outside the ground coming from the Main St and could barely walk forward in it.

So, are you saying that Mr Doyle bowed to this so called pressure from "the league" at 5pm and declared the pitch playable and then had a quick change of heart a short time later and called the match off. Who is this person "the league"?

I'm amazed by the amount of people falling for that picture. It's obviously photoshopped.

Even god is anyone but rovers, it would seem.

Des - Tolka must be on its last chance insurance wise if it gets flooded again? Hope it"s OK.

    Come on Shams.

Is it true they're missing a few up front?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,740 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Twigg out injured, Dennehy and Turner suspended, Sives still injured maybe? It's all about the attitude Rovers go out with. If they go out with intensity like the cup replay which was without Sives and Twigg as well, they'll be fine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

    Hope so.

    Come on Shams -1 :D

Some big players out, I can see this going to the last match and then Galway winning 1-0 in the 90th minute :D But hopefully not

Great win for rovers- enjoy the league win - next year will be alot tougher I'd say.

Neil Doyle (the ref) is a Rovers fan, was always going to play until they scored. No way was that a second yellow for the UCD lad. ****

Dreadful selection of ref for such a game. Doyle was a well known Rovers fan (was once a 400 club member), but I will testify for the chap that he takes his reffing very serious and would be unbiased.

However, he had a stinker tonight. Way too many yellows for competitive challenges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,093 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

    Ref was shocking.

The UCD sending off was even worse than the Rovers one.

    Still, Rovers are the champions!

    :)

Did you even watch the game? He dished out cards to Rovers for nothing challenges. Oman got one for simply jumping on the spot. A good call for a peno shout or two aswell with Shep getting a nudge in the back in the first half and such.

As for the added time, there was 6 substitutions, two red cards, play stopped for about 15+ fouls, 6+? Yellow cards, UCD player had to get attention, was escorted off the field of play...got down to behind the Rovers goal and then the UCD keeper needed attention causing the physio to do a length. If anything there should have been more added time.

No way was that bias reffing. S**t reffing maybe but certainly he did in no way favour Rovers.

We're champions again. Another 100k+ in the bank and the Rovers era of dominance is back for the next few years for sure.
