How good are you?

So, how good are the COD players of boards.ie ? Do you think you're average? Or do you think you have 5,000 hands?

W/L and K/D aren't really a good measure of the skill of a player but they are a sort of indicators I suppose. They can be skewed too easily i.e. playing with high killstreaks or running in parties exclusively.

I'll post my response when I get back home

Im beast :p Don't know how else you can measure how good someone is at COD playing in public lobbies other than W/L or K/D even though as you say they aren't always accurate.

I'm not sure what you want here?

Are you looking for stats from people or should I just say how awesome I am? :p

As a run and gunner, I am average.
I am better at tactical engagements and controlling the field. Hence my love of MW2 SnD.

It would be nice if there was a pole just to see each person's opinion of themselves. Personally I'm much better on black ops than mw2 for whatever reason, I've played roughly the same amount on both but since mw2 is more challenging and frustrating than black ops it's hard to quantify how good someone is especially if you're talking about different games. From playing with boardsies, I'm probably average with a dash of brilliance and a smidgen of ineptitude.

Many more times in black ops I've thought that I was the next iteration of Neo, almost getting a blackbird against a full boards party or single handedly beating a team spawn trapping demolition on nuketown, but my moments of greatness are equalled by moments of stupidity running off the map on summit, getting a gunship the first time I tried on firing range before being shot down with the only casualty myself, or killing myself with my own sam turret.

IMO.. you can never really judge anyone's skill based on pub bashing, some people are just naturally good at beating bad players, be it that they camp for their killstreaks or they just know the routes and angles that catch noobs out. Time and time again i've seen players that think they're awesome because they can go 80-5 in a public lobby completely go to **** when they face a team that isn't ****. Comparing yourself to someone based on stats and figures on your combat record is probably the easiest way to become big headed, don't know how many players i've come across that are better than me on paper that i've made ragequit or send abusive msg's my way.

Even playing with some of the PS3 guys (Im not sure about the xbox lads because i really only played with you lot a few times)... theres a tendency to not challenge themselves (Im not talking about using weaker guns against weaker players... im talking about playing better teams), must have happened more than 10 times were we'd come up against a half decent team, get beat and then everyone wants to leave the lobby except me and lakes (From the few times he + I have been in the lobby when its happened). Granted there are those few times were we'd have some really good games and people then say how awesome it was.. but most of the time... people don't want to know. But yeah.. I seem to be in the few that really hates backing down from a decent challenge. People brag about how they're great team players... its easy to cap a flag while the rest of your team rapes the other team.

Im not saying im the best CoD player ever.. but i love me a good close game, nothing better imo.. its why i rarely played any form of public games before switching from PC to PS3. And in those tight fought games... when im actually playing to win.. most of the time I do (leaderboards and all).

So yeah... take that how you want :)

I cannot add a pole now it seems. Must be too late.
As regards to how good I am? Above average I reckon,
like most of the ps3 lads I play with bar 2 people who are a step up. If I was to compare the skill level I'd say most people on boards would give most of the youtube pub-stompers a good run for their money. From what I can see the WoRs, Woodys, Onslaughts, Tmarts aren't special. Xcal is the standout for me.

I'm much better at blops than mw2 but I think it's just from practice. Hopefully I'll be that much better at mw3 when it rolls around

honestly, I do ok, I can beast in some games and get my ass kicked in others. Demolition is my game of choice at the mo, love getting the close plants or defuses, was in a game with Beertons recently and got the defuse in the game winning round with less than 1 sec on the timer, they had got the plant with 1 sec left on the game clock, what an epic game.

I would consider myself a good team player though, would be one of the first to take out air support, even uavs, which people really underestimate in matches. I'd rather get a ****ty kdr and take out every bit of air support than go 30-0 and do nothing but kill whore so yeah, I be ok.

But i do well anyway... from what i can remember of when i was ****e at FPS's, i had just as much, if not more fun than I do now. I really struggle to have fun when I go tryhard tho, which is why most of the time im running around like an ejit. After a couple of months of blops, the only times I would be taking the game seriously is when my team were getting beat or I was trying to prove a point.

I would rather play with people who know how to have a laugh than people who just want to spawn trap or get their killstreaks... im sure your the same ?

Yup yup. I cannot hack playing with people who run choppers and dogs in parties. Somebody puts up a blackbird and they go and get their dogs
Saying that, I think they're boss when you're going solo

I dont even really find them *fun solo, AC130 is a FUN killstreak, dogs.. not so much :P I'd rather be running around shooting people than playing defensively for my killstreaks. But yeah... at least it requires some skill when playing solo... black birds are a joke imo.. worst killstreak in any of the CoDs (In that they're too powerful).

I inspire to be as good as Ken Burton.

I take pub matches with a pinch of salt, I do note the all-rounders though as these are players I'd rate and who I think would make for good teammates in a competitive level. So with that said, from boards the likes of Lakes and Hypermuse stand out. Well capable players who love to win and play the objective. They aren't simply slayers. Shammy and probably Remi (who's hibernating I'm fairly sure around the Carlow countryside) deserve a mention with the above two names. I've always enjoyed playing with him albeit it hasn't been much lately. For purely objective, Lee as I've said before is top notch and takes the strain off me having to be preoccupied all the time with any air support while others killwhore.

I preferred COD when I was a noob. My first COD (and FPS) was Black Ops, and I had a 0.18 KD for the first two weeks of the game :pac: :pac:

I have improved a LOT since then though :P I suppose I'd be an average to better than average player now (maybe a 1.5 to 2 kd player if I could reset my stats right now), though a lot of the time I just mess around with akimbo SMGs, tomahawks and sniping (and Lord knows I try to act like Grizz when I'm wielding a sniper rifle). Since then I have played every COD bar COD1. I guess I'm an objective based player, always favour the win to going positive, but playing with the XBOX lads there's little need to be constantly capping flags.

As I said, I preferred COD when I was a noob. That constant struggle of trying to go positive, not knowing any weapons, it was addiction, my only objective was to be good at the game. And now that I've somewhat reached that goal, the game has become boring to me, I'm totally burnt out on COD, and it has been a harsh realization to accept over the last few months. Going tryhard MLG mode is just frustrating an boring to me.

Hopefully MW3 will change all that.

Consistency would be a nice one for me, I go from having a **** game getting noobed out of it on MW2 to having a beast of a match and topping the board, Blops I'm consistently **** but it's fun, I find that a few people who boast are usually full of crap, one of my sons friends were boasting about doing the campaign in blops in a short space of time I said yeh in your own head sunshyn;)

I think you only really know how good someone is from playing with them

Anyone going by stats is just lost. I'm a middle of the road player but had the best stats of the Xbox lads lads time I checked - at one point it was 6W/L and 3k/d but that's just because I was protected by the better players in the party

meh!! can have good games and some shockers!!

ALways play objectively with support killstreaks but if I'm playing lone ranger on my own Id just arse around and do whatever coz I find it too frustrating trying your hardest to win a game with noobs more interested in sitting in a corner waiting to get a simple kill!!

Think most people who could be bothered to post on a COD forum are going to be above avarage ... except me
I'm very average and was particularlly bad over the weekend. Then my nat went to open on Sunday night, the intenet sorted itself out and I became an MW2 god for an evening:D
Still horribly addicted to the game

Firstly, I would agree with the sentiment that most of the lads who post on here would be above average, and that's how I would describe myself with CoD.

When I'm in a group, they are all Boardsies and most of them are truly exceptional players and by that I mean inately good.. reaction times, knowledge of maps, accuracy, a fookin sixth sense of knowing where people are etc.

I would definitively say I always play objectives.

Even if I am playing with randomers, I still bust a gut to cap a flag, plant a bomb or whatever - to hell with my kill/death... (granted that makes me more aggitated when no-one else tries to cap etc.)

I strive very hard to play well.

I am extremely hard on myself and expect to play well.

When I don't, I want to take great pleasure in destroying the controller which makes me play even worse.

When I'm relaxed and playing with people I know, I play and enjoy it much more, especially the banter.

Generally, I really enjoy matches where we are pushed hard for the victory. It's nice one in a while to completely stomp the opposition but tough matches are far more satisfying.

Finally, I couldn't care less about my stats.

I'd like to think that whatever skill I may be lacking, I make up in effort :)

Here's a tip lads. If you want to go from above average to beastly, just take all your dlc (assuming you have them all) and put them on a usb stick. Unplug and let the rape commence on the 1st/2nd prestigers.

I'd say I'm an above average player... So are half of the people that I play with though.. Sometime pub stomping just becomes way too easy, especially with a full party of people from here, we could go around with pistols and still win... :/

Im around, not much interest in gaming or the internet for the last while. Lack of money and a job adds to that. Missing out on these big releases aswell:p.

To add to the thread I really only take the game seriously when im in a party as I hate too lose or let others down when in a party. On my own i dont care what happens and would be running around sniping one minute then trying to crawl to the other side of the map the next.
