Many would recommend sowing the seed 8 to 10 weeks before you plant them out. I always give mine a little longer - at least 12 weeks. That way you will have a good strong plant when you plant it out and it should take off better.

get a half bucket of slurry, top up to 3/4 full with water. (ie 1/2 slurry & 1/4 water) mix it up.

as you plant the cabbage out leave the plants in the mix for 15 - 20 mins and plant in the ground.

Are you planting out in modules?

I've never used kale up until last year but have been so impressed with it.I like the way you can harvest what you need rather than having to take a whole head like with cabbage and can leave the plant growing and harvest again and again.Any other kale fans?

Yes, always keep a few heads of the old style "curly kale". Great job.

However, you can also get second helpings from cabbage if you cut it properly day one. Instead of cutting it near the ground, or pulling it completely, just go in under the main ball or head, and cut as high up as possible. Leave the stem in situ, and few months later, you will be able to cut nice juicy side leaves which will grow afterwards.:p
