    Puff the Magic Dragon.

On the surface it seems to be a song about smoking marijuana but it reality it's song about a magic dragon named Puff.

That's what I was going to say.

I'll go with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, or for a whole band the black sabbath were satanists was pretty retarded.

One by U2, listen to the words those who are thinking of using it as a wedding song, it's not a love song.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,754 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

Twas in a movie admittedly, but it was a bunch of KKK guys singing "Amazing Grace" at a cross-burning. (The song was written by John Newton, a reformed slave trader.)

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Summer of '69

I just assumed it was the summer of that year

    I was wrong

Every Breath You Take being played at weddings is fairly funny.

also, Don't Stand So Close To Me, by the same band weirdly enough, is about a teacher molesting a schoolgirl, creepy.

Alan Partridge: 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".

"Hey Mr. Tambourine Man" was speculated to be about a drug dealer but afaik it was later proven to be about a Turkish tambourine player who frequented Bob Dylans recording studio while he was making an album..

Summer of "69" is said to be about the sex position as opposed to an actual Summer

Losing My Religion is an expression that means "losing my temper", it's seemingly just an obsessive love song akin to Every Breath You Take, not actually anything to do with religion.

Growing on me by the Darkness is about genital warts.

    can't get rid of you
I don't know what to do
I don't even know who is growing on who, (yeah, yeah)
'Cos everywhere I go you're there
I Can't get you out of my hair
    I Can't pretend that I don't care - it's not fair

I'm Being punished for all my offences
I wanna touch you but I'm afraid of the consequences
I wanna banish you from whence you came
But you're part of me now
And I've only got myself to blame

    You're really growing on me
(Or am I growing on you?)
    You're really growing on me
(Or am I growing on you?)
    Any fool can see

    Sleeping in an empty bed
Can't get you off my head
    I won't have a life until you're dead
Yeah, you heard what I said

    Perfect Day.

Most people consider this to be a depressing song, probably about heroin use. Especially because of the way the song is used in the film trainspotting.

Are you saying it's actually about a perfect day? wow never knew that.

    Robbo wrote: »

Yes this is a very common misunderstanding. The song was originally called Brown-Skinned Girl so the link to anal sex would make no sense. It's funny how easy it is to convince people it is true though :)

It is misunderstood. I used to work in a hotel and the amount of couples that had it as their first dance song used to make me chuckle. Most of these people wouldn't have had a clue about its meaning and had probably only heard of it after it was used by the BBC for a charity single.
