    Hi Everyone,

I've started to run a lot more getting myself ready for football season again. My problem is I've had patella tendinitis for the past fews years.

My question is for anyone else out there that suffers the same, is there anything you do to help you situation i.e. strapping or any supplements?

    Thanks.

I've been/going through the same thing. There are different reasons that can cause it, so there's not much point in masking it with supports etc. unless you're getting to the route of the problem. Otherwise it'll never go away and just get progressively worse. I've been through that.

Go to a physio, find out what's causing the stress on the tendon and sort that out. In my case my quads are too tight, and the surrounding muscles in the knees are under developed, resulting in strain that the tendon shouldn't be under. But it can be for a host of other reasons as well. You can strap them for support but find out from a professional why its happening imo.

Thanks for the response, yes I've been to plenty of physios nearly went for surgery but didn't want to take the risk. I did a lot of weights to build the muscle around the knee and got insoles as well made for my runners.

basically I don't have the same pain as I use to more of just an irritation at times and it can be inflamed afterwards but nowhere near the pain I had years ago.

    Its such an annoying injury!

You can get patella straps and such like - not saying it'll work for you like.

I use the jumpers knee strap for my ITB/patella problems and it works great to minimise pain when running. Doesn't fix the problem though. :)

i have the same, i can run all day and it doesnt hurt but soon as i hit a football pitch its different, the sudden stops seem to be the one that does the most damage for me

thinking at this stage I might just quit football and take up running as my sport :(
