My little one was recently diagnosed with dairy allergy. One of her most fav things is ice-cream. I know HB make a Soya Ice-cream but I cannot seem to source it anywhere. Im based here in Kildare and all tesco and Dunnes dont stock it. I rang HB ireland but they couldn't point me in the right direction.

Any ideas where i could get my hands on this?

    Cheers:)

Moved to Nutrition & Diet as the good folk over there may be able to help quicker.

    (Despite my avatar - I can't help, sorry! :o)

Health food stores should stock non dairy ice cream

I feel you pain my oh's daughter has a dairy, eggs, gluten, spelt, and soya allergy, finding products for her is a nightmare, but we've found a fair few including brownie bars she can eat.

I used to eat the one that came in a weird shaped (hexagonal I think) black tub from Tesco - it was marketed as vegan icecream but was actually soya icecream but I haven't been able to find it recently.

Lidl do a tub of berry sorbet in their freezer section - its seriously yummy and you might be able to pass it off as berry icrecream to a child!!!

P.S. The one in the black tub is a brand called "Swedish Glace". My sister lives in Kildare and gets it regularly (she shops in Newbridge) but no idea what shop.

Ohhh Swedish Glace is lovely and comes in a few flavours. You should be able to get it in a health food shop. There is also Booja Booja but thats really expensive.

The HB stuff was ok and a decent price but I have not seen it anywhere for quite a while. Did they say it was discontinued?

Failing that then make your own maybe? Lots of dairy free recipes out there.

You can make some very nice ice cream using coconut milk - it's simple to make and can be very nice ( experiment ). There are quite a few resources on the web for it if you search about.

Swedish Glace is very yummy indeed.
Many health shops also stock Booja Booja "ice dessert" which is made with nuts, tasty stuff but quite pricey. If you're out and about and your little girl would like an "ice cream", I've often found Cornetto-ish and Iceberger-ish treats in health shops, sold singley for about €1.20, often hidden in the freezers though.
Also, if you're up in Dublin, Aussie Ice Cream in Dundrum and Ginos on Grafton St both do scoops of soya ice-cream. The place in Dundrum TC usually has two flavours, and also do 6 flavours of delicious sorbet. I don't think there's any cross-contamination issues, I've never been ill from there anyway!
Oh, and Shakes on Dame St do soya milkshakes!!
