changing pick ups

    I have a mex strat, and im considering changing the single coils to bare knuckle pickups - irish tour set. Should I also change the tone pots too, or would it make much of a differnece? If its only the p-ups that need to be changed, id give it a go myself

    I wouldn't bother if the pots are working fine without any scratching. Some people argue about pots but I think as long as they are working well then there is no need to upgrade them to more expensive ones.

    I reckon there's working, and working well when it comes to pots. I'm one of those people! Loads of pots sound grand at ten, but have no range, they're pretty much on or off. Good pots and caps will give you a nice sweep through the pots travel, rather than just sounding dull and muddied once you turn them down a bit.
    Plenty of peeps just leave everything set full up, then you have me, a compulsive knob twiddler, constantly messing with the volume and tone. I generally play with good single channel amps, and find decent electrics to be invaluable to go from biting dirt to mellowed out clean, without mushing out. If the wood is good, and you're gonna upgrade to some killer BareKnuckles, then some decent pots and caps will unlock the full potential of your guitar. CTS Premium are very good, and still cheap as chips.
