hi folks, just wondering if anyone does spinning classes and what they think of them, do you have to be very fit to do them or can you go at your own pace so to speak?

    thanks

    I think spinning is great.

You can make it easier or harder for yourself by lowering or highering your resistance.

It's a bit distracting though if you're doing a hill climb and struggling to turn the pedals and you see someone floating along because they haven't turned up their resistance!

I can't recommend them enough! I started out last year and was pretty terrible but now I'm part of the advanced class - so your fitness definitely will improve :D

As a beginner I really liked it because if you can't keep up you can lower the resistance or sit down, and the room is darkened so no one can really see what you're doing. On the other hand when I tried aerobics type classes as a beginner I felt like an idiot as I was doing all the wrong moves and going in a different direction to the rest of the group while looking at myself in a mirror :o

Does anyone know if there are spinning classes in the Lucan area? I'd like to give them a go as I believe it would work out my problem areas (tops of the my thighs and ass) and also be a good cardio work out. I don't want to join a gym just for the classes though, would be an expensive way to go about it I think. :)

Or as the instructor at my first class told me, everyone else is in their own world of pain, so won't care what you're doing :D

I've only been half a dozen times, but the good thing with my regular class (in Source in Cork) is that each week is slightly different. I'm sure he just rotates the workout, but I've already forgotten what I did 4 weeks ago, so it'll come as another nice surprise. Not sure if all classes do this.

I've never done a spinning class where the room was darkened.

I've been to a few and some would do the same routine everyweek which gets really really boring. But more often the instructors change it around.

I'm sure there are some in Lucan, but if not there are classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening in Ballyfermot Leisure Centre. Nice new(ish) facility, busy classes with a good mix of gender/ability. They also have 5 or 6 different instructors so the classes vary

€7 class including use of the pool/sauna etc afterwards (or gym before). Classes are included in membership

As regards the class itself, it's easy to fit in as a beginner, although make sure you talk to the instructor on the first course and get them to help you set up the bike and give you a run through its operation. It's also very easy to hide in a busy spinning class though, so as soon as you are familiar, be honest with yourself, keep the resistance up and work as hard as you can. It's only 45 minutes, and it will be over before you know it

    Best of luck

Sounds good, thanks for the info.:) Started kettle bells last night and will be doing that and boxercise each week for the next 6 weeks. Once I get that under my belt I think I'll give those spinning classes a go.
