Saw these in Tesco Claerhall earlier on - while not Saorview compatible out of the box (although it does do UK freeview) it's still a 37" 1080p LCD from a reputable manufaturer for under 300 blips.

Currently out of stock however according to the SEL, but a maneger type fella told me that was the price specifically because it had no Saorview compatability.

    LG37LD450

For comparison, £450 from Amazon: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41qexXxa4uL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

It's not on the list anyway, although I know it's not exhaustive.

The xxLD450 range are Saorview compatible -They deliver all Saorview channels and digital interactive teletext via MHEG5.

They have not been Saorview approved but that makes no difference in the case of this model.

Hell of a price and they're fine TV's, grab it if you can.

There is no such thing as Saorview compatible. It's either Saorview approved or not. If its not Saorview approved then I would call it digital compatible

    Rubbish.

Saorview Approved means it's on the official Saorview list. Just because it's not on the list doesn't mean it can't receive Saorview.

    Therefore it's Saorview compatible.

I couldn't care less if it is on the official Saorview list or not. The tv picks up Saorview - that all you need to know - hell of a price for a very nice telly!

Grab it if you can find one, folks. I got the 32in version fro Amazon when it was listed as a BA and its a n excellent tv. Fully Saorview compatible with mheg 5.

I actually have the 32" LD450 aswell, I have been using it with a sky box. Are you saying that if I plug it into an aerial I will get saorview? Was convinced i'd need a set top box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,529 ✭✭✭recyclebin

It will probably pick up all the Saorview channels now but there is no guarantee if will always work with Saorview if it is not approved. There are parts in the specification that Saorview currently do not implement but that does not mean they will not in the future.

I'd say its better to be safe than sorry.

If you use Sky or UPC to get the Irish channels then yes this is good bargain as you don't need the saorview certification.

There are guys over in the terrestrial forum that will know more about this if your not sure whether to buy this tv or not.

I've been chasing this Tv for over a week in Clearwater, they say only 1 or 2 come in at a time (gone to staff) you got to be quick.

Yes, with a suitable aerial, you will. And the much improved text will also be a feature.

Yes. For example if you moved the tv to a room where you didn't have a sky box, you will be able to get the saorview channels through the aerial connection. In the future, even if saorview ADD to their capabilities, you will Still get what you get now and Possibly the 'extras' - but not definitely.

I think the reason it's not listed as approved on saorview.ie it that it's listed in lg's website as a discontinued product!

They are in the back in the warehouse in Artane. There were 5 left, after I bought mine, and tht was at 10pm last night.

It was the main security guard fella that got it for us last night. As the manager was busy sorting out all the night staff at that time.

You will also get rte 2 in high definition.... which is good for sports... you get rte news channel, and the kids channel and rte 1 +1 (you may get these on sky, I don't know)

It was €299 in Clearwater about 10 days ago, out of stock.
    Which store €399?

Tesco will also consider selling the display models too.Ask to speak to the general store manager or duty manager of that Tesco store you are in.

But these TVs are on more or less 24/7 being used and getting rather warm and they will not have a warrenty with them. The store manager in Tesco Clarehall was preapred to sell me a display model for 60 euro off the allready sale price, but I decided against it,in the end.

Might be worth a shot,if you are desperate for a TV and a cheap deal, and are prepared to take a hit on the no warrenty issue.

Apologies wrote previous post in a hurry. This offer was in Jervis Centre. Brother was there said he spoke to member of staff who claimed he got a 32" LG for 189euro. He said staff snapped them all up before they got on shop floor.

Typical tesco keeping their underpaid staff sweet. I work in the phone business - when this nhew iphone is released it'll be a month before we're allowed anywhere near them. And I think that's fair - it should be taken for granted when you start working in a place.

It's not as if it's hugely hard to get someone else to queue up for you if you want a deal badly enough.

Cheers, not interested in the display models, I'm a bit of a dog with a bone at the moment as I have been hounding Clearwater every morning for the €299 price, every day it's on order for tomorrow but never happens, one of the days I went over it had a price tag sliped over the right corner saying €549, hate to think the staff are grabbing everything.

    Making me??

Eh no,I actually "chose" to buy this TV.

Its for the main bedroom in the house, and the 26 inch TV that was in the main bedroom can now be used as a large PC/Gaming moniter,or it will just be kept in storage,as a spare TV

And it was I who notified the boards members of the Tesco offer on the 32 inch Full HD/Saorview TV.;):)

I wouldnt believe what you read on those Tesco yellow price tags.

Ask to speak to the person in charge of the TV and Electrical items section and disscuss the TV you are interested in.:)

Pity she only has 2 HDMI ports.

37'' Full HD Saorview TV for 299 nicker though, beggars can't be choosers I guess. :P

BTW, calling around a few stores, it seems that some are expecting a delivery today. These 37'' are on board. No idear of numbers though. I imagine it depends on the store concerned.
