The usual big spenders who have a chance of winning (Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies) are all sorted at first base so if he does chase the money he'll end up playing at at sides who aren't competitive and I don't think he's the kind of player who wants to play at a 70 win team no matter how much money he's getting.

The Cubs could be an option that that Epstein's there but that would be considered treachery in St. Louis and I don't know would he do that.

Yea, I kinda think he will aswell. Not many players these days play their whole career in one uniform and I think he wants to be one of those players. I do think he wants value for his talent which is fair enough considering what ARod got. But he have to give a hometown discount to stay as someone like the Cubs will probably offer silly money to get him...

As for the Cards they will be at least as good next year with Wainwright back. Alot of their younger players have stepped up and should kick on next season. Berkman may return aswell...
