Fell off the wagon earlier on this year and want to get back to eating primal - best ways to do this a cheaply as possible? I remember Sapsorrow had a good post about eating on a budget but I can't seem to find it now :/ I will be buying more canned tuna/sardines, that's for sure.

Appreciate any replies, thanks.

There was a question about this on paleotalk
http://everydaypaleo.com/2011/05/16/paleo-talk-episode-16/

BUT asfair it involved picking up bargain veggies at Farmers markets -they obviously don't have farmers markets like us in America!

It's hard as usually you would use pulses as a cheap alternative to meat....

I find that forcing yourself to be creative is the easiest way of saving money but, some things are just down right cheap.
A cabbage - 99c and stirfried with a bit of ginger butter and soy (or for a change butter and balsamic ) is enough for 2 of us for 3 meals a week. Mix a bit of goats cheese and beetroot through it for a fantastic all round veg filler.

I kinda also make a habit of buying everything thats in Aldi's 49cent range, this week I bought 2 * parsnips, fry off with an onion and maybe garlic/ginger and some curry powder, a bit of chicken stock and you have soup for lunch for 3 or 4 days ! For less than 2 euro !

Eggs are cheap and a superfood btw - 2 dozen Large Free Range eggs in Aldi is 4 euro.

Chicken, go with Free range breast and leg mix again from Aldi - 2 of each for €2

I don't think they can be homemade and come from a supermarket at the same time...

(You could, of course, buy the minced beef and propably make 10 - 12 burgers for the same price if you did it yourself)

Ginger Butter? I googled and came up with this:-
Asian Ginger Butter
This butter works well with fish, pork, and grilled vegetables.
Ingredients
Procedure

For 8 people 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened2 tablespoonsscallions, finely chopped 1 teaspoonginger, peeled and grated½ cup cilantro, chopped2 tablespoons soy sauce ¼ teaspoonKosher salt
1. In a mixing bowl, add butter and allow it t become softened.
2. Use a fork to blend in the seasonings and herbs.
3. Remove the butter onto a piece of waxed paper and roll into a cylinder.
4. Refrigerate of freeze cylinder-shaped butter.
5. Cut off pats, as you need them.
Is this what you mean? Sounds delicious!

I've made burgers myself from mince and they taste the same and look like they are basically the same thing except they work out cheaper buying them already made.

you'll probably find that the burgers have one or more of wheat, starch, water, E numbers, flour, breadcrumbs etc in them and between 70% and 90% beef.

If I'm making my own burgers I use mince beef, salt, pepper, an egg and some ground almond for binding it together. You could also use some garlic, chili flakes etc. for an extra bit of a kick, going primal on a budget is tough alright, but shopping at stores like aldi or lidl for fresh produce helps a lot.
Plus buy in bulk and freeze stuff, occasionally butchers will have like 10 chicken breasts for €10 and I buy a whole bunch and stick them in the freezer.

Try contact a Meat Packing company or something similar. A friend of mine gets me 24 fesh 6oz chicken fillets for €20 from her job. If you've no luck there there are meat companys such as Mogerleys and Themeatfactoryoutlet.com that sell public at good prices.

I always get good deals at the butchers if I push them, and after that Aldi and Lidl are also good value

And the Asian market have great prices on a lot of stuff. I recently got 3 800g bags of nuts (2 almonds, 1 cashew) for €16
