tear in muscle

13 days ago, on a saturday morning i had a blow to my back after falling about 2metres mid somersault on a chin up bar, was in agony and told my the doctor that i would have suffered a jolting in my ribcage leading to disconnection of cartilidge, he perscribed difene and said i should feel better in a few days and could continue rugby training and pilates the following week, all of which i did.

i felt great the following tuesday and went for a check up - doc said i was healing great and to go to training that night, which i did - it involved lots of short distance sprints and towards the end i developed pain from the bottom of my left hip down to thigh, on the back and outside. i beleived it to be sciatica and went to pilates the following night hoping to relieve it but could barely move later that night and the following day.

felt a good bit better the following day but went back to the doc asking what he suggested i do. he looked at me walking and stretching and said that he thought i had suffered a pullled muscle from the fall which i tore while running and then of course doing pilates and said that for it to heal properly i should rest and not strectch it for 6 weeks and running etc was stretching the tear and stopping it from knitting back together.

however articles on the internet and opinions from athletes and my pilates instructor disagree - being of the opinion that the muscle needs some stretching. however i tried running again on tuesday and although not as bad as the previous week it caused pain and i couldn't perform at my best.

now i intend to see the doctor again and voice these concerns but just wondering if anyone has had experience with tore muscles, would love to hear how you healed. i am not looking for medical advice, just similar stories as i'm already feeling my hard earned fitness dwindle and would love to train again but this injury just doesn't allow me!

also should say, i saw three different doctors but each of them had the report from the previous doctor.

You'd probably be better served going to a physio if you're sure nothing is broken. Where are you based? If you don't already have someone good we may be able to recommend someone.

For now, have a look at this site - http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/ you may find some useful info there.

Edit: Did the doc do anything other than watch you walk and stretch? Did he actually feel the sore area or physically examine it in anyway? This is what physios/physical therapists/sports therapists and such like are trained to do, you average doctor doesn't deal with this sort of stuff very often.
