A Working Mans Lunch.... HELP!!

    Hi all,

I joined Slimming World last night with an aim to losing a couple of stone and to get out of the habit of eating Takeaways and rubbish.

My OH has decided to do the diet with me (but not go to the weekly weigh in classes) and last night after the class we read through the books to see what HE could take for his lunch ever day and thats where the problem arose.

He works on diggers/dumpers/lorry and his main diet during the day would consist of coffee and Ham and Cheese Sandwiches. He was delighted with the other parts of the Slimming World Extra Easy diet but his lunches when he is at work is going to be a problem.

Slimming World Extra Easy only give you 350g of Skimmed Milk as part of Healthy Extra A and only 28g of Porridge or 2 slices of Wholemeal bread as part of Healthy Extra B - so if he eats his breakfast he can't have his Ham & Cheese Sandwiches.

He leaves every morning around 5am and isn't home until after 8pm. He works on sites and on the road a lot so he can't have something that needs to be reheated as he hasn't got a way of doing it.

Could someone give me inspiration - on what I can send with him for his lunch that is easy for him to eat on the go??

    Thanks

could you ask him to switch to whole meal bread or even better oaten bread and use healthy fillings like chicken / tuna and salad.. much better than ham / cheese in white bread..

He already eats wholemeal bread - but he'd have 2 sandwiches (thats four sliced of bread) and that already puts him over on SW.... Actually he won't eat white bread!!

I have just joined too! Struggling with lunches myself - dont really want to use my 'syns' for lunch - would rather keep them for something nice! :D

What's oaten and is there any particular brand nutritional better then the rest?

I would be inclined to say 50g of peanuts or a protein bar.

If you could post up his sample diet, I could offer some suggestions.

It varies but the main gist of it is:

    5am - Coffee
Sometimes he'd stop at a filling station on the way to work and get a sausage roll or Jambon but he's cut these out.

9am - Coffee & Fruit or bar (again he's cutting these out)

    11am - Coffee & Yogurt

1/2pm - 2 Ham & Cheese Sandwiches on Wholemeal bread, Yogurt & Fruit

    7/8pm - Dinner

What I've been loveing is the sandwich filling that has been diced up and put it in an iceburg lettuce leaf, basicly a wrap using a lettuce leaf. It's very tasty and I'm stuffed after two.

I don't know how sw works, if it's the bread or the filling that's the problem, I'm guessing the bread.

I will say that it doesn't look like it'll fill anyone but after two I can't eat anything for hours.

I put diced up chicken that's been mixed with roasted tomato pesto (+ if I have any veg left over that go's well with it)

I will say it can be difficult to get the leaf off in one piece, and depending on how much oil is in the pesto it can get messy.
