A brazen midday shooting Wednesday at a busy Southern California hair salon left eight people dead and one in critical condition, authorities said.
Police said they arrested a man in a white pick-up truck at a traffic stop a half-mile from the shooting scene and seized multiple weapons. The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Friends of the salon owner said the gunman was the ex-husband of a stylist who worked there.

Happened in Seal Beach Cali in a upscale hair saloon.
Reports say Seal Beach has only had 1 murder in the last 4 years so its hardly the ghetto.

One very pissed off husband. At least he was captured and didn't take the usual route of killing himself or take the suicide-by-cop route out so some questions can be answered, at least.

Aww yes i do love this place, if this had happened in Ireland, i bet none of these smart ass replys would be here and most of the posters who said them would attack anyone who would make a joke of suck a situation but because it was in the u.s.a its a free for all, no respect shown for murder victims.

I love the way I'm not allowed to carry a gun around in California, even in Seal Beach. Governor signed a law against openly carrying unloaded guns two days ago. (loaded already banned)

A gunman apparently enraged over a custody dispute walked into a crowded Seal Beach hair salon where his former wife worked and opened fire, killing eight people and critically wounding another person in the deadliest shooting in Orange County history.

The attacker sprayed Salon Meritage with gunfire Wednesday afternoon as victims fell to the floor and those who could escape ran onto the street or hid in neighboring businesses in the bustling area of trendy restaurants and shops along Pacific Coast Highway, authorities and witnesses said. The gunman continued firing outside, where he shot one man who apparently tried to flee in a Range Rover.

Look, what do you expect when you put up the thread....the stock OMG that's terrible RIP etc....what does 2 pages of that do for anyone?
Mass shootings in the US happen frequently enough for them to have passed into non shocking territroy....of course it's a tragedy, of course being able to buy firearms in the local supermarket is a stupid way to run a civilised society, but it's all been said before.... if it's not a school it's an office buidling or a shopping mall.
If it happened here it would be an awful lot more unusual (although no more tragic) and I doubt jokes would be to the fore of my mind.
I'm sorry for the double standards but hey, people get shot and die every day...there were 13,000 murders in the US in 2010 a majority of them involving firearms...I imagine it's a similar figure for this year. As terrible as it is for all involved, the world is full of madmen and jilted lovers...some of them have access to guns and do these terrible things....meanwhile half a world a way it will never effect my life (or yours I imagine) in any way.
Distasteful jokes aside, what else is there to say?

I assume you've never been to Switzerland where guns are a part of life for many. A similar percentage of gun ownership and yet more people die from stabbings each year. There is definitely a problem with the US when it comes to these massacres, but access to firearms is only one part of the issue.
