    Hey guys

Quick question for you. I need to lose a lot of weight for health reasons, and I know I should put my weight up and what I want to loose but tbh I'd rather not on a public forum. I have a very sedentary job so I'm not active during the day. I need structure (I prefer team sports but I can't find the right one for me at the moment) so here's what I'm hoping to do:

    the Couch to 25K program
    +
30 minutes of swimming a week
    +
calorie counting diet with a focus on cutting down/out refined sugar and upping my fruits and vegetables. I also need to cut out bread, which is the main thing giving me the heebie jeebies .

Does that sound like a good way to build up my overall fitness and loose weight?

    thanks for any advice

    Do you mean 5K? I know it's written c25k, that's "c to five k". It's a bit confusing.

I think c25k is a good starting point for someone who's sedentary. I've heard lots of success stories with it. When you're finished it and are fitter, consider what you enjoy doing and maybe switch to that.

Yeah sorry, that was a typo in my post!

It seems like a decent program for getting me moving again! I only just heard about it today and it just tickled my interest.

If you have a lot of weight to lose and don't have any real fitness base, then C25K is a great program. It gets you into the run of things steadily, building your body up each week.

One thing, you haven't posted your weight, but I'm going to assume your fairly heavy. Make sure you check with your doctor that running will be okay for your joints at your weight. Running isn't suited to heavy people as it causes a lot of stress on the joints. If you're really heavy, you would be better off using the cross-trainer, bike, or rower until you get down to a suitable weight.

    Best of luck.

I've heard great success stories about C25K and it is a brilliant way to build yourself up gradually without pushing too hard.

Just make sure you get advice on the right trainers for you so you don't end up with shin splints and unable to run as I know how a small setback like that can throw you off the wagon from my own experience.

In relation to what FYG says about the cross trainer, I used to use this at a low level because I thought I wouldn't be able for a higher level and to be honest it was making very little difference to me so I pushed up to level 8 and it absolutely kicks my bum so I'd really recommend the cross trainer as something a little easier on your joints to begin with.
