most places are reasonably safe. I saw a thread on here where lads where giving the scotch quay area the thunbs up. Thats in the city centre but kindof to the side so there is nice mix of being 2 minute walk to all the shops, pubs and resturants you want. The Park is also near there which is a nice lil amenity. There is loads of apartments out there.

Alternatively, a bit further out on the Dunmore road is a bit quieter and safe enough.

Note: Most areas in the city centre are safe enough if you are not wandering around like a target. Personnally I would avoid O'Connell street area, just my opinion.

There are loads of houses out Dunmore road area, around ballytruckle and The Manor (city centre) which are grand.

I have lived all over Waterford and the Manor is the roughest place I have ever lived with drunks and students every night. Would be a rare week someone does not try to kick in my door or damage my car.

I wish there was a ghost estate closer to hillview. Then I could claim squatters rights and when I did eventually get kicked out I wouldn't have to carry me Xbox andolaystation to far back to me parents

In order of preference i would say 1) dumnore/passage road area 2)ardkeen near the uluru, 3)anywhere around the park 4)skotch/adelphi quay. 5) the folly.

at all costs, stay away from the cork road/larchville/lismore park/hillview regions. Skangertown, plus there are loads of students - search for templars hall on here to get an idea. That whole part of the city is kinda scummy really.
As for o connell street/bridge street region, all i will say is this: full of p****h and b***ks. i wouldn't bother with it tbh.
The manor is also kind of a hole, with students pissing and puking every night. The housing there is crappy too, ancient falling down town houses.

but the dunmore road area is very nice, that where i would like to live in waterford. Currently i am in Ursuline court, its Okay too, but not on a par with dunmore rd. I expect dunmore rd. region to be quite expensive, but further out in williamstown is cheaper. There is a good choice of houses or appartments too. as a rule of thumb, anyone who is anyone in waterford will live in the dunmore road region. Its sort of like "Waterford 4" if such a thing existed.

I wouldn't completely agree with you M&C. Plenty of good areas around the cork road and also bad areas on dunmore road too. I've lived on O Connell St, never had any hassle but have heard stories. Lived down on Scotch Quay, didn't see much trouble but was quite noisey at weekends and the odd Wednesday night. Currently in the Infirmary on johnshill, the building is very safe and quite but Wed, Fri and Sat nights you an hear people heading home from the night clubs, can be loud.

Overall think it is easier list places to avoid than name areas.

, stay away from the cork road/larchville/lismore park/hillview regions.

Hillview is very quiet ya mad thing. Rarely something happens up here. Ya cheeky pup ya haha.

There were some hoodlums out by the Ballinakill shopping centre on the Dunmore Rd. Are they still about?

    ardkeen near the uluru,
    .
You obviously don't take the bus. ;)

Scotch quay are the best in my opinion aswell. Nice big 2 bed apts going for about average price. 1 bed for 450 also.

Ive noticed a big increase in rentals recently as if people were waiting till students went back to avoid renting to them. 500 gets you a really nice spot

Also a good tip is to check your mobile reception while viewing. some of them are like lead boxes

Noticed a really nice house in town for 600 recently aswell. not sure about noise though. it doesnt bother some people

When you say safest i wouldnt worry much about anything like that. One good thing about Waterford is its one of the safer places ive lived. Theres not really any bad places relative to estates in Dublin etc.. Id feel safe walking just about anywhere at night or day.

Never mind the city come to woodstown!

You can get a nice apartment for 500 in the city if parking isn't a requirement. What really let's done slot of properties is the quality of furnishings in living rooms. Sofas from the 80's and 90's are so off putting and so are student apartment style chairs.

If people updated there property a little more I think they would have no problem in renting.

I'd agree with holding waiting till the students have moved into places before I looking, it's what I've done myself.

No. to paraphrase maggie thatcher, anyone over the age of 30 who uses a bus has been a failure in life. Only kidding.:D

theres a difference to places being noisey and dangerous. Revellers cominghome from the pub need not be a dangerous situation, it is a place full of skangers thats dodgy and they are not nessecarily noisey.
For example, i'd much rather live in the appartements in ardkeen over the uluru even tough there may be noise than live in a quiet part of larchville where i will get stabbed with a syringe by some scumbag.
What i'm saying is that some area's are inherently better than others judging bythey type of people that live, work andsocialise there.

Mount Suir is half a ghost estate near Hillview Seany! :) Plenty of houses empty!

probably adelphi quay is all. handy parking there.

What landlords need to understand sometimes if if they dont spend on furniture the place lays empty for at least a month then that just cancels savings out.

Amazing how many people judge an apartment or house just by the couch.

It's true people do base it on a sofa/couch, but a nasty one would put me off.

Are you having a laugh... new on inside but beside the night clubs and scum bag students. also the back garden? or lack of it.
Sone nice apartments in newtown.. no scumbags there and only 10min walk from city centre.

Exactly I pay less rent than that with an extra floor and bigger back Garden on same street. I would not pay more than 450 a month for that house.

IMO the best apartments in the city are definitely in Glencove on the Dunmore Rd. Live here myself and id highly recommend it, the only downside is that your looking at 800+ per month, which is expensive when compared to other places, but the location and quality are second to none.

well, I don't know if the Killure Manor is good or bad itself, but it's very close to Saint John's Park so, for that reason, I wouldn't be very happy to move down there...

What decade are you living in? John's Park is fine, and has been for a number of years. My girlfriend is from there originally and I've spent a lot of time there and have seen no trouble at all. A few cheeky kids hanging around but you'll find those in any estate in Ireland, nevermind Waterford. I'm living in what people would call 'a nice quiet estate' and I've seen more cop cars calling up here than anywhere I've ever lived.

Why youd want to move here i dont know, Johns park is a tip, every time ive every walked through there from the dog track down that way its always covered in glass, bins all over the place, bikes car tyres lots of social housing, people dont seem to care about the area they live in, dog rough, You dont see any guards in there cos theyre afraid to go in there.

Waterford is one of the last counties you should be moving to

Well that's complete bull****, because I'm in there every other day and I don't see any of that. I see friendly people, I see well maintained gardens and I see kids playing football and chase with each other. There is a row of houses that I think have settled travellers right up the back of Johns Park that nobody I know living there considers that street to be part of John's Park, and they don't care what their street looks like. That's not Johns Park in general.

I know for a fact that people in Johns Park are more worried about kids coming over from Kilcohan estates and causing trouble than kids in their own place.

Anytime ive been there its been in a mess, and when i moved here first looking for a place to rent i was told to keep away from JOHNS PARK, Templars Hall and a few other places!, Ive also had the pleasure of dealing with a few people from that area.

This is the last time I'm replying to one of your posts, but instead of listening to hearsay and spending your time spreading negative energy about a City that's needs anything but that, you spend it doing something constructive. That's the last I'm saying on the matter now.

    b) just on here trolling negatively in a sterotypical Irish way, complain complain complain without ever doing anything
