we need Mods...

now, as many of will know from mod notes in superthreads over the past while, Iago has stepped down as soccer mod recently, and so we've been attempting to take the slack.

we're also now looking at losing Dub13 very soon too, as he takes up another position. he will be staying on until we have new mods in place though. so thank you to him already for that.

so this thread is designed for you to let us know if you would like to help us mod the forum. we have our own ideas, and are working at it, but this is just to aid us in our process.

think about it before you put yourself up for it. there won't be a public vote or anything like that. it is, at the end of the day, a mod decision, ratified by the admins.

while you can suggest others in this thread, only those who nominate themselves on this thread will be considered.

we'll leave this open for a few days, close it, consider the names and come up with a name...and you will be let know of that choice in due course once all the work by the powers-that-be has been done.

also, an important note, feel free to lend your support to someone who has nominated themselves, but if someone nominates themselves and you don't want them, do not start talking crap about them, and listing off all the ways in which they aren't right for the job. it'll just cause the thread to go into a slagging match, and we want this thread to be as easy to sift through as possible when we're looking for candidates.

thanks, and we look forward to working with whoever comes aboard.

    :)

    Vote for me.

If someone steps out of line, I'll have no problem smacking them in the back of the head.

EDIT: Iago's reign of terror is over... Let there begin a NEW reign of terror. :pac:

Will there be an LoI mod :P

Its hard to know who would make a good mod, as you will generally see posters in another teams superthread trolling or making silly comments.

I think Mitch would make a good mod.

    Sure, why not.

    *throws amp test hat in*

Also, That_Guy is a legend. And it'd be fun having a Toon Army rep on the mod team! :p

Yeah, I'd like to be considered for this position please.

I'm arrogant, wrong most of the time, quick to judge, I know nothing about the beautiful game and I'm an all round bastard.

    Fully qualified so.

Actually I'd like to see Johner or flahavaj get the position, I think they would do a good job.

I'd like to nominate El LoCo Ade for soccer forum mod.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,017 ✭✭✭invinciblePRSTV

I'll nominate Paully D, a decent, sound SFer ime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

Hopefully the quality poster who eventually becomes mod wont stop posting or post less frequently as that happens on most of the boards.

Mitch would be good choice and also flahavaj.

    -1 Bleedin' Sunderland fans.

    Nah +1 He's a decent skin.

    I'll nominate me.

Lord knows I've enough time to do it thanks to being in College. :pac:

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

Johner or Paully D would get my support.

I'd hate to see Mitch get it simply as he mightn't post as often as he now does, as what happened with Iago.

It doesn't always work out like that though, SlickRic has managed to keep up his level of posting and still have time to do his mod duties, Frisbee too, although Frisbee has been more inactive lately.

Mitch would be a great choice, but its up to him and not us whether or not he puts his name forward.

Paully D is another good choice, although I do think we do need a United mod given the large % of posts that go through the United superthread and match threads. Paully manages to keep up to date with the United thread quite frequently and chips in with his opinions so he would too be someone I'd vouch for.

Blatter would be another good choice, but I'd presume he would be a controversial one.

Surprised I haven't been nominated to moderate the United Superthread...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭VW 1

I would also be in favour of Mitch, Flah, or PaullyD getting it as they are all quality posters and contribute very well to the forum. However I wouldnt like to see any of them get it as it would mean they will probably contribute less on the forum!

What kind of reasoning has brought this about. I'd love to hear it.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

Does this mean that the old method of 'mods coming up with the name of a sensible, good poster and then asking them after admin approval' has been thrown out? If someone didn't nominate themselves here (say they were on holiday but eminently suitable) does that mean they won't even be considered? Using this as an extra way to get names to consider would be fine, using it to entirely replace the older way would be a mistake I think.

it's not replacing it at all.

that maybe wasn't clear in my OP, apologies.

these suggestions are very much an aid.

    I'll take a guess...

If you understood the responsibility than you probably wouldn't want the responsibility. So if the person puts their name forward then they don't know what they are signing up for.

Being given mod duties for a big derby should be punishment to bold posters!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

I think 5starpool would be an excellent mod.

Mitch would also be very good if he could control that temper of his!

I would like to help the forum as it has helped me discuss the beautiful game.

I think I'd be more than willing to take on the responsibility, I like dealing with people and dispute resoloution.

Maybe others do as well hence why they'd nominate themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

I don't quite understand that. That's no reason.

    read mars bar's post.

we'll only bring on someone who'll want to do it though.

it's a volunteer position, so the idea of actually forcing someone to do it doesn't work.

but the new mod should be aware, that while it is an opportunity to "give back" (to use a clichéd line), can be fun at times, and good banter is had with the co-mods...it's not the super-glamorous thing some perceive it to be (i.e. some perceive it as some sort of badge of honour or opportunity to be a bit of an overbearing wánker).

    i hope that makes sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,789 ✭✭✭✭keane2097

Bit harsh and was it really necessary to go throwing labels about?

    Not harsh at all tbh.

If you genuinely didn't understand what I was saying you're genuinely too dumb, if you did understand and still posted what you posted you're too much of a pedant (which a quick scan of the front page of the feedback forum would seem to suggest).

Jesus christ what are some of you thinking? If flahavaj was made mod you could pretty much say goodbye to there being a single LOI thread on the forum. I certainly wouldn't post anymore anyways.

That's a bit of an overreaction tbh, as a normal poster he engages in a bit of banter about the LOI, as a mod he would know full well to leave it to the mods that actually take interest in the LOI.

Out of the candidates so far that are avid LOI followers Des is about the most worthy candidate, nobody can question his activity on boards either with 9 modships already :pac:

To the best of my knowledge there aren't many (if any) mods with an interest in the LOI. As for what you're referring to in relation to flahavaj, if you have a look through the LOI threads, you will find there aren't many (if any) posters who consider his antics as harmless banter.

I think Kess, Mitch and 5starpool would make decent mods to name just a few.

I don't envy the mods tbh with some of some posters on the SF.

Good luck to whoever gets it anyway.

Actually Stovelid would be a brilliant mod, and would be part of the LOI element of the forum.

He's a quality poster, and comes across as a really excellent guy in his posts. I think he'd have the temperment for it and would be a really good addition to the team.
