Just thought people could post opinions of different cars they may drive/come across.

I drove a 01 Celica. First time driving one (140 bhp version).

Everything was good about it bar the power, it was there but it wasn't anything amazing. Handled really well and took to the corners nicely. I'd love to drive the 190 bhp, would make it a lot better of a car.

Fook me LM, I was thinking the exact same thing this morning given all my renters :D

In a Kuga today. Manky pi55 bag of a yoke, comes with free pipe and slippers. Prefer the Focus tbh.

I'll have to go for the Lotus if this thread has legs :)

I rented a Kuga the last few weeks in Germany, apart from trying for 30 minutes to start the bloody thing I quite enjoyed the car:D

My sister has the 190 bhp vvtl-i version. If I had it I can safely say I'd no longer have a licence as it encourages you to hit the high revs!

I owned a '04 one of these for 2.5 years. Loved the car. Best handling, most fun to drive car I've ever had. At the time I thought it had great power but have since learned based on the next few cars. All in all though, they're great cars. Very reliable too, would have no issues being stuck with one again. :)

Currently driving a rental 2011 Opel Astra S 1.3cdti Ecoflex.

I don't like it at all, it's hard to step down from an A4 to this.

Take off power is non-existent and dangerous if you are trying to join a roundabout etc. To get any response you have to keep the Revs high.

It sits well in the corners etc. but the lack of power is frustrating.

Test drove one, was shocked at the lack of grunt and also thought it was unsafe and liable to stall mid junction.

Apart from that, a good handling car.

I had a 2011 316d for a few days last week and was surprised that i actually liked it.Was reasonably quick for a small engine.Had a petrol 318 a few months back and hated it.

I'm going to get flamed for this, but had a go in a 1.6D Octy (2011 model). Was seriously underwhelmed by the experience. Dull, Dull, Dull...

Base golf is nicer (despite an extra 15 bhp...)

Drove a BMW 650i last week....some sound while revving it at idle (engine was well warm :))....took it for a quick spin but as the roads were wet, any kind of prodding of the throttle just resulted in the back stepping out and the electronics correcting everything

I drove my friends old 94 1.8 mx5 a few evenings ago and I really liked it. 140bhp which is not alot but it can shift it around nicely.

Drove an Insignia today for the first time. Jesus the steering is horrible. It does a wierd self centering every time you turn the wheel.
Rest of the car is descent enough but the ecoflex engine is very loud too.

I rented one over the weekend and have to say I loved it.
    Positives:
Handled well, nice driving position, everything was where I wanted it to be in the cabin, looks well outside and it had a nice bit of grunt for it's size.
    Negatives:
Didn't like the look of the interior, the center arm rest cannot be adjusted for height, cannot turn off the ESP (I didn't look hard but no obvious button), didn't like the seat (a problem with me and Fords in general), the leather steering wheel felt cheap and was closer to plastic than leather

Couldn't test the MPG properly as it was a lot of motorway driving ;)

Have to say I was pretty impressed but I imagine the ESP cannot be turned off as it probably doesn't handle well without it. I pushed it's limits though and have to say it was good for it's size.

    I'd certainly consider one

    Today I drove a 1.6 Golf Mk4.

First time driving one, I was pleasantly surprised. Everything else was the exact same as a normal Golf 1.4 but it had that bit more power, I'd have to drive it for a few days to wonder if it was worth it, but for motorway driving I couldn't reccomend one enough!

LM, was it the 8v or 16v?

When I was buying a Focus I drove a 16v 1.6 Leon really liked it. I even liked the much derided 8v I had for a few years afterwards. But the 16v was a very well sorted car for what it was.

Speaking of Hyundai's, my cousins uncles something or other asked me to buy his 05 Hyundai Sonata of him...

Old shape, 2.5 petrol... I offered him two pints of lager and a packet of crisps :pac:

Typical for the airheads who bought them. Anyone remember when they first came out? There were loads of them all over Dublin. And yes they have a V8 petrol engine and V8 petrol engines sound divine, but the SC was pure muck and I wonder where all of them have gone once the owners realised we were all laughing at them?

Today I have been mostly driving a '04 Land Rover Discovery commercial. Slow, lumbering, noisy, bouncy and a real effort to drive.

And I loved it ! Bit of a challenge to drive, reminds me of a big truck or a large classic car.

My own choice of classic cars to date have spoiled me, mainly a 1976 Triumph Stag, a car that must have been wayyyy ahead of its time when it was built as it was a real delight to drive, even in modern traffic. The Discovery feels like what I'd expect an old classic to feel like. A bit of a challenge to drive.

The SC400 is actually what the original Soarer was called in America.

The SC430 on the other hand was the fat whale of a thing with the folding metal roof.

Roomy, practical, well built, comfortable nice gear change and not bad to drive.

    Dislikes: -
Road noise, steering wheel (pointy edges at 10 to 2), fair low down torque but lacks acceleration at high speeds.

Gave me 57 mpg cruising speed 90 mph for 50 miles.

Drove an Opel Meriva for the first time on Saturday. What a relevation compared to my Corsa B. Smooth, lovely gear changes, very quiet and great (high) driving position. No power of course, but it's only a 1.4. It's hard to take off very smoothly because the clutch gives very little feedback, the brake is set in concrete and the accelerator has no feel. Overall it's very easy to drive but very numb - you feel detached from the car. It's still miles better than my car though. I'm doing my test in the Meriva this week so I'll probably get used to it.

    So far today.

03 Focus 1.4, Mine. Does the job. Want to change, but don't know what I want.
08 Mercedes Vito manual bus. It's the work one, god I hate that machine. Eats bulbs, tyres go in 2 months, the handbrake itself broke off, electric windows are tempermental, manual box is clunky, and seems to be lacking in power.

I can drive anywhere from 1 car to 50 cars a day. Doubt I'll have anything interesting today though.

My sister has a brand new Mazda 3 as a replacement car at the moment.

I was negatively surprised by the interior and general feel of the thing. Very light doors, and Toyota-grade scratchy plastics covering a good bit of the interior.

Totally put me off it, I'm not sure why but I expected better of a Mazda. A 10 year old Golf should not have better dash plastics than any brand new car.

Hopefully burnt them and bought the 1JZ Soarer. Looks the same but has a far superior engine with brilliant tuning capacity. No surprise that 1JZ engines are becoming a very popular powerplant choice for drift cars.

I was driving the parents 07 Mazda 6 diesel at the weekend. Grand car to drive, good enough power at low revs. Steering wheel feels very cheap though and I didnt find the seat to be very comfortable on a long journey. Not a bad car overall.
