A time when there was no facebook, youtube, twitter and all that pointless bs we find ourselves wasting time with? A time when computers actually had a purpose and the internet was only used when necessary for important research and what not.

They were not at all more simple then. Plug and play didn't exist. The internet was a disaster to make work and usb storage hadn't been invented.

Everything was a pain in the bollix then. We just didn't know any better

How you use your PC is a matter of personal choice. There are no mandatory regulation that you must use the above. I have never even been to the Twitter website, because it doesn't interest me. I log into Facebook two or three times a year just to share wedding photos ect with family and close friends. I use You Tube to share music videos in a private forum here on Boards and that's it. Your PC can be as complicated or as simple to use as you want it to be surely?

Using the web is much simplier now. As someone aove said, you don't have to use it all, but it's nice to have an option. Even viruses don;t seem to be so rampant as they were few years ago.

Having said that, it was great when being able to use a computer was an actuall skill you could put on your CV.

Some people shrink from the very notion of going anywhere near a computer and i've told them it's like learning a new language and being able to remember what each word means. IS there a concious effort in the IT industry to preserve a mystique about it all.I've wondered because a lot of it is really child's play though there is a lot that still bewilders me ONLY because i hav'nt learned to remember the meaning behind the word.SO WHERE ARE THE REAL BRAINS NEEDED??It's only Rote as far as i can see.

Yes I do sometimes but don't know what I do without technology though. Then again I do miss the simple things in life sometimes! The times when we didn't have technological distractions or mobile phones.
