I came up with 'The Dead Butterflies' once. Sounds kind of emo-ish or something.

    Use away.

You won't find one here, to be honest. Just use my approach, read lots of your favourite books, poems, etc. Something will leap out.

Who writes the songs? Who is the workhorse? There is always a leader in a band. If it is you, just make a decision and move on with it. Remember, it is the band that makes the name good, not the other way around.

its not like that. its a democracy. if u ask me, a band who has a main workhorse is bound for trouble

Yeah, sure look at Oasis.. ;)

Nah you're right. If one person is calling the shots, resentment will follow fairly rapidly. Talking from experience here.

are band names with "The ___" outdone/outdated?

    No.
This whole idea of what names are trendy really doesn't matter. As a previous poster said, it's the band that make the name. Look at bands with names that sound daft when you take the 'band name' factor out of it..

    U2
    Red Hot Chilli Peppers
    The Beach Boys

    .. to name a few..

Ok, is it a four piece? Make it a band with four words in the name, and pick one each.

At the end of the day, someone will get their way on this. Bands who try to make everything equal get mired in indecison. You need one or maybe two people providing the drive. Fifteen years of playing in bands has taught me that.

yeah, theyre all good.. dunno what the rest of the guys will think. certain names with "the __" are certainly outdated. like, "the heroes" is waaay too cheesy

Why not call your band that? You wouldn't be the first band to do so.

i.e. The band Starsailor took their name from a Tim Buckley album name.
