If you could parachute one player into the Irish squad from any of the other 19 teams at the world cup, who would it be? I suppose as it's fantasy injured players would become uninjured in this scenario so feel free to pick Dan Carter.

Myself, I think I'd have to go for Ma'a Nonu at 12. I think it's the one position where we could do with a significant improvement on what we already have and would have a positive effect on our style of play.

I don't know much though, to be quite honest.

    Genia probably.

I think 9 and 12 are probably our weakest positions though.

    Isa Nacewa.

    Nonu

    Oooh, good question.

I think Nonu is a front runner all right. Though I am a massive Isa fan, I'm not convinced he'd have as much an influence on games at that level as he does for Leinster.

I cant better either of them, Bakkies would add a lot of grunt at 4, but DOC has pulled his socks up the last few games so cant really justify him being gone. If Best an ongoing injury I would put in Servat.

Nacewa is not at the World Cup.

Since our hookers are being whittled away; Bismarck Du Plessis.

Nonu or Steyn(if he was fit.) I'd be happy with either to be honest.

Neil Francis, just to see him get battered :D

Depending on how Murray does on saturday, Kahn Fotuali'i. But probably Israel Dagg for the potency he'd bring to our back 3.

That would have to involve him getting near the action first...

    For RWC teams...Shontayne Hape

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *ahem*

    Franc Steyn please.

Richie Gray to add another dimension and touch of class to our second row without losing any of our work rate or power. I honestly don't think I'd change any of the front row or back row. Our half backs have enough depth to get us through as does our back three. 12 would be the other position I'd consider bringing someone in. Frans Steyn was having a fine WC or Nonu would be more than welcome.

I think Nonu would add a massive amount to our back play.

Nonu or sonny bill for me. Both strong defensively but could you imagine how dangerous bowe, earls and bod would be coming into the holes either of these guys would make. The proof was there last weekend when darcy started to make a few yards.

    Parisse...

I wouldn't even take him in a straight swap with Heaslip. I think he'd give us nothing.

I like to put him in what I call the "Cooper Bracket". Great at the pretty stuff, not up to much when it comes to the dirty work and nuts and bolts.

hard to break the darcy / bod combo... but imagine nonu and bod!!!

Isa Nacewa out of the non-world cup players. Would bring a very nice option across the backline...

Out of the players there... It would have to be Nonu for me too...

    Nonu or Mike Tindall

Bakkies Botha. You'd love him if he was Irish!

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭wixfjord

My own choice would be Genia, Lawes or Grey.
Only real areas where we're lacking currently is at SH, and dynaism at lock.
I do think O Connells carrying has improved no end in the last few games though, and I think DOC is a very important part of our choke system too.

Beale or Nacewa would be two good uns also.

I'd love to see sonny bill playing for us at 12

yeah he's magic, at one stage during the Irish match i swore i saw him hovering on the pitch with his feet off the ground...

    great player tho!

For me, it would be Bismark du Plessis, Fourie du Preez or Ma Nonu. with possibly du Plessis getting the nod to ensure we had an absolute juganaut of a pack.

Am I the only one who'd take Dan Carter if fit? I know it's great to have the ROG vs Sexton dilemma, 2 great choices blah blah blah but come on lets be honest here .. Carter is just much much better than either of them. He can get a back line running, kick the corners, control a game and has great place kicking. He really is the outhalf that has it all.

I don't think anyone is denying that but surely a top class centre/9/lock would be more useful to us?

Yeah they would of course be of great use to us, suppose I just think a truly world class 10 would be even better. Would put an end to the Sexton ROG debate too !
