GSM modem locking up with KANNEL

    Hi

    I hope this is the right forum

    I am using KANNEL via /dev/ttyS0 that is talking to a WAVECOM GSM modem for receiving and sending SMS messages.

    For the most part it works really well, except for the occasional lock-up of the GSM modem. It appears to be a bit random though. KANNEL reports that it cannot open the port and retries. I have even tried rebooting the OS but that doesn't help.

    The funny thing is that if the stop bearerbox/smsbox, and literally enter minicom (pointing to /dev/ttyS0) and exiting the app (allowing it to reset the modem), then kannel starts up again without a problem.

    I am a bit perplexed by this behaviour, and hope that someone can give me some ideas.

    I am running kannel 1.4.3 on fedora core 15 as a VM on ESXi. The serial port is only active and assigned to the VM. its disabled for all other VM's.

    Maybe send a reset command to the modem?

    echo \+\+\+ AT\&H0 ATZ >/dev/ttyS0

    You may need to stick a few CR (\n) in there too, when I think about it.
