Why do you drink alcohol?

What's your reason for doing so?
Do you enjoy the taste? or just the feeling of being drunk? What is it.

I'm sick of the hangovers, don't like the taste, and in general don't want to put my liver through any more trouble, so it's a sober october and beyond for me.

What's all your reasons for drinking?

Man up and take your hangover. Walk to the shop, the air will do ye good. Nab a brekkie roll, a bottle of coke and paper, and quit yer wingeing.

Don't like the taste of alcohol? Hmm...

I don't really like the taste of beer so I don't drink it unless it's a German wheat beer or a good beer, can't understand why some people drink beers that they don't like the taste of.

I think your problem might be that you drink too much, drink enough to get a good buzz going and then pull back- no hangovers.

I drink to unwind, it's one of the only drugs that will relax you that is legal and you don't need a prescription for.

A variety of reasons, mainly the fact that I love the taste of a good pint. I also love the nice buzz of a few beers and a good chat. With the drink I tend to be more relaxed and less measured. I have plenty of fun sober but I tend to enjoy not being sober quite a lot too. I have a fairly good tolerance level and I have a usually reliable off-switch, when I go "right, full, chips, home", which has saved my arse a few times!

Sitting with friends/family at around the 4-5 pint mark, when the Craic is good, is one of the nicest feelings I enjoy. I'm lucky as well that my friends are generally excellent to drink with. We almost never start/encounter hassle.

I can't stand the taste of alcohol, in most drinks and in food. Yes I will taste if you've used any wine in cooking unless it's fully cooked off.
I'll have a cocktail the odd time though, they're nice, but no more than a couple as a rule

For my experience alcohol has caused more problems than solution for my friends.

I never bought it when people say they need alcohol to loosen up at a party. I know them and their perfectly sociable without it. Really its just become embedded into our society as a fact of going out.

I read once in a chem book a line that really struck me, that is if alcohol were introduce today as a new drug it would more than likely be banned. I mean there are far less harmful drugs that have been banned.

Love the taste of beer. A beer with a drop of lime in it is lovely. Also love the taste of wine but wouldn't drink a whole bottle of it. Well...I did once with a big Italian dinner, much easier to drink it while eating.

I enjoy the taste and I like the feeling of being drunk. I rarely drink enough to suffer from a hang over in the morning so its all good. 6 cans at the most.

I also don't care for what percentage beer is. One think I hate is hearing people yap on about how high of a percentage their beer is. Good for you, Ill just drink whatever I think is nice without looking or knowing what percentage it is.

I've done it. Its actually quite funny. :D

An alternative is to not go out to events that people plan on getting drunk at. If no such event are planned...well that says something doesn't it?

I usually say that after I drunk too much..:pac: (but you are right its to get your body a month rest and don't drink to have hangover)

For the taste and the feeling of relaxation.I honestly enjoy the taste of beer - it amazes me the amount of people who don't enjoy the taste of alcohol but drink anyway. That said,I do suffer from terrible hangovers amd have started feeling quite depressed the day after a few too many - it's getting worse the older I get.So I think a spell of abstinence is beckoning.

I like the taste and relaxation. If you're getting hangovers you're drinking too much.

I am not 100% sure, but I can safely say it has nothing to do with the taste, beer tastes disgusting, you really have to educate your mouth to "acquire" a taste. If it was about taste the soft drinks are definitely nicer.

So with me its about the effects, it relaxes me and makes me feel good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,576 ✭✭✭Coeurdepirate

Because I love being drunk. I hate the taste and obviously the hangovers, but the blissful feeling of being drunk followed by the euphoria as your cheek is resting on the toilet seat is second to none :)

Because I love the taste of it and I love being scuttered. Still being drunk the next morning is always a bit of craic too.

Love the taste of beer and wine and whiskey. But I really do it to numb the pain and boredom of the existentialist nightmare that is my life.

Drank every weekend for years.Gave it up a month ago im left wondering what the buzz was about?

I've pretty much stopped - not for any particular reason, but because my tastes have improved while my budget has gone the other way. I never just drank for the sake of drinking, but because I like the taste, and I quickly got bored with most standard drinks. Apart from the occasional social drink, I'll treat myself to a bottle of good spirits once a year, and make it last months.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
