Hi, I am left handed. I distinctly remember when I was a kid a few years back a teacher actually hit me with a ruler (not hard or anything like that) for using my left hand to write. My Granny use to tell me how the priest would literally batter any kid who dared use their left hand to write years back, the nuns too.


In one way I can understand. We do tend to write a little slower and smudge the page. Just the other day a friend, seemingly only noticing I write with my left hand, said "you left handed!?" (like I'm some sort of a freak for using my left hand to write) - so I said "what do you fcuking think?"....hard to believe this still goes on. But it does.


Left handers are not left handers out of choice. End the discrimination!:P

I think its ok for people to be left-handed.......in their own home only, and no public displays of left-handedness

My dad is a natural leftie but the christian brothers beat his hand senseless, forcing him to write with his right. However, the school needed a left winger for the football team so he was "allowed" use his left foot for that :rolleyes:

Lefty myself. There's a good book about drawing called "Drawing on the right side of the brain" It has lots of science about left handed and right handed people.

I wonder what proportion of the population of Ireland are left handed? Think I heard it was 10% or something like that. I reckon it's probably quite a bit higher.

No we don't! I am left handed as is my mum,my gran and my daughter and none of us smudge the page or write any slower that anyone else.Why would you write any slower with you left than you right hand

Because naturally your left hand is passing over what you have just written constantly. That's why it looks awkward to right handers. If you don't smudge the page then you have your hand lifted slightly. That slows down how fast you can write only very slightly. I'm not saying left handers write slow btw. I know because that's how I write. Put a left hander against a right hander for who can write fastest without smudging a page - right hander wins.

My mother's brother was beaten because he was left handed and was forced to write with his right hand. End result is he can barely write today. Its a disgrace that it was allowed to happen.

Cheque books & ring binders suck.
Scissors are ok but I always thought everyone had to kind of force the blades together to get it to cut properly. Turns ut, its only left handed people.
Tin openers are a pain and need to be used backwards or with right hand.
