    Heweryiz...

My mother has a slipped disc and I'm telling her to go to the doctors or something. She adamant that all you need to heal a slipped disc is to lie down a bit and it will be grand in a few weeks. I don't believe her. She's one of them auld granny types with different remedies for different ailments. She'll probably rub a cold tea bag on her back or something tomorrow.

Can any of you health fitness & physio freaks tell me what should be done with a slipped disc?

    Go to a doctor.

And what will the doctor do? She thinks all they will tell her is to have some rest. Tell me what is usually done to somebody with a slipped disk. If it turns out that there is actually a quick fix then she will go.

She'd need an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. From that she'll probably be told to see a physiotherapist to begin rehab if its not too bad. Worst case scenario is surgery

Depends on the nature of the injury.
I'm pretty much assuming here that neither you or your mother is qualified to give diagnosis.
And so the Slipped disc may not be such.

Internet strangers shouldn't be giving you advice to giver to your mother. Only have one back, so don't mess with it. You mother diagnose herself??!!

Thread locked. Off to the doctor.
