Everton v Liverpool derby no 216

[insert club logos in your imagination here]

    Sky Sports HD2 from 12pm

So then a year after one of the lowest points under Roy Hodgson when Everton defeated a spineless LFC 2-0 the chance to wipe that from the memory. This meeting will certainly be a much better contested game regardless of the result.

Early team news is as follows (from Sky)

Cahill is a doubt for Everton after he sustained a shin injury in a challenge with Manchester City's Vincent Kompany last weekend. The Australian hasn't trained all week but Moyes will leave it as late as possible before deciding on the 32-year-old's fitness.

Striker Louis Saha is pushing for a recall after appearing as a substitute against City last weekend but fellow forward Victor Anichebe remains side-lined until December.

For Liverpool, skipper Steven Gerrard looks likely to start from the bench as he edges his way back to full fitness. The England man has played just 25 minutes of competitive football since recovering from a groin operation.

Glen Johnson is out with hamstring strain while Daniel Agger will also miss out as he recovers from a rib injury.

    Possible starting XIs

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Baines, Jagielka, Distin, Rodwell, Fellaini, Osman, Coleman, Cahill, Saha.

Liverpool: Reina, Enrique, Carragher, Kelly, Skrtel, Kuyt, Downing, Lucas, Adam, Suarez, Carroll.

    Referee Martin Atkinson.

Hard to argue against that starting 11 in the circumstances, as much as I'd like to see Gerrard start it would be pushing it in a game like this, better he comes on fresh with 20-25 to go along with Bellamy.

    Everton 0-3 Liverpool.

Its a big game so Kuyt will inevitably score twice, one of them a controversial penalty. Suarez with the other.

2-1 Liverpool, Suarez to be the difference in a tight game. Looking forward too watching this tomorrow.

I recon Liverpool will win this one IF Kenny plays the right team..

    ie Kuyt instead of Henderson...

2-0 Liverpool 2mo, andy Carroll with both & solid defensive display!!!!

If Liverpool play 442 with Adam, the midfield will be completely dominated by Everton. The possibility of Henderson starting is always a worry, particularly given how strong Everton look down the left with Drente and Baines

Any pool victory will do - 3-1 I'd say, Downing to get off the mark!

    2-0 Liverpool...Suarez and Downing.

I heard he's 7/1. He's been 5/1 the last few weeks, could be worth a punt especially given that he's taking pen's and Liverpool have conceded a few of late. I don't want to put the mockers on it though

Liverpool are going to win this handily. Liverpool -2 at 11/1 is a fantastic bet in my opinion. Tomorrow is the day that Carroll catches fire.

I admire everyone's confidence in Liverpool. I don't really share it though.

Andy C is rubbish, pool fans say 'tomorrow' will be the day every other week.

    how much was he again?

He was £35 million. It's better to overpay than to scrap around the bottom of the Greek and Argentinian leagues, hoping, even praying, for a striker who might just break into double digit goals for the season.

If the lad they got from Argentina got double figures then he'd have been a great bit of business. Carroll will have to be brilliant for a sustained period of time before he represents similar value.

Jeering Everton because they're skint only makes their achievement in regularly troubling ye and finishing where they do all the more remarkable.

its not just Andy C, They have pissed far more amounts of money down the drain on players in years gone by and im not talking millions.. more like tens of millions.

I cant see Andy getting 20 goals a season, maybe 10..

An Injured pay as you earn Saha with 1 leg would almost get that.

    better to overpay...lol

    right boss as you say.

He'll be worth it to me when he scores tomorrow and puts in a MOTM performance.

This probably won't happen and Suarez most likely will take all the headlines.

indeed, Pool are rich (compared to Everton anyway)

but the bottom line is there is hardly any gap between the sides in recent years, despite the gulf in money and wages between the sides.

so get a grip... its also just as long since Pool won a title lets not forget.. hell, almost the same as Everton.

and who ever said better to overspend is probably working at man city and makes nothing of spending 100 million on someone.

and still not win a league...

doesnt bother me who pool sign or who manages ye as ye still wont win anything, and barely scrape above pauper neighbours at the end of the season...

    so spend away. !

Not an optimistic Toffee at present. Hopefully Dalglish leaves Kuyt out as he's a certainty to score. I'll take a draw in a heartbeat.

Would Blues be adverse to employing Rodwell in the same role as the city game except man marking either Suarez or Gerrard (if he plays) as I thought he did that role brilliantly tbf.

Suprised to see such confidence about a Liverpool win, shocked infact. Have people been watching football this season, especially the past few weeks?

This thread should be hilarious tomorrow btw

Gerrard is still crocked.. suarez is dangerous, i say man mark him and drive him nuts and let him cry to the ref for cards.

Don't normally agree with x and the city but he's right about Carroll, he's a donkey, plain and simple. Shocking bit of business by Dalglish. If he ever comes good I'll be more than happy to put my hands up, but he won't, as sure as eggs is eggs. Good for a mid to lower table team, though. Liverpool should just cut their losses and get as much as they can for him and bring in some one as cover for Suarez.

As for tomorrow, I reckon a draw or a narrow Liverpool win. Suarez being the difference of course.

Fúck knows whether Carroll will ever live up to his price tag. To judge him so quick is ridiculous.

Suarez at £22m looks a snip though...

Why though? He's been with Liverpool for 9 months now (bought at the tail end of Jan) and done sweet fcuk all. His touch looks apalling and his finishing from the floor has been brutal, not to mention his off the field antics. He has also shown very little potential to command such a hefty price tag. Has very little to his game other than being a target man for Carragher.
He may turn out to be a decent Liverpool player, but sure as fcuk he will justify his transfer fee, I'd wager anything on that.

No, but I've seen plenty of him with Liverpool and he's not once shown the signs of a £20 million pound striker, never mind a £35 million or whatever ye paid for him.

    couldnt put that better myself.

Everton get players for free, so if they screw up its no major loss.

Pool spend the guts of 40million..

so clearly its better to over spend... as someone earlier said.. :)

And why the fcuk would I watch Liverpool play Wolves?

He has been good in all the games so far this season, scored two perfectly good goals in the opening two games, only to be denied by poor refereeing. He was class last week against Wolves, was unlucky not to get a goal, he hit the post. He is a good player, he wont repay his transfer tag over the next two or three seasons, but I think he will over the next ten years. He's never going to score 20+ goals in a season, but offers something different. If we get 10 years out of him, then he will represent better value. Costing £3.5 million a year.

If you take Torres for example. Chelsea will probably only have him for 3 or 4 seasons on extravegent wages, costing them £12.5 million a season. Even Meireles will cost them £3/4 million per year.

Ferguson paid £20 million for Anderson in 2007. Its only now he's coming good for them. It took Ronaldo and Nani two or three seaons to start playing decent as well.

Either way, Carroll will be an England striker for the next 8 or 9 years. If things did go belly up, and we did have to sell him in a year or two at a snip price, then I would consider his signing a disaster, but for the minute I'm happy with his performances.

I think if you look back in ten years time, Carroll will have cost Liverpool alot less per goal, than some of the big money strikers out there at the minute.
