Gonna take the Dolphins +7 over the Chargers. They just don't seem to be putting games away and no Antonio Gates won't help them either

    Indianapolis +10 looks generous too

So true. Curtis Painter is one of the worst back up QBs in the NFL. I'd rather just play the wildcat every snap with Joseph Addai under centre. I shudder to think of the amount of turnovers and negative plays he'll account for.

I'm a Colts fan.... but I did put a fiver on them having the worst record this season at 66-1 when it started to become clear Manning could be out for a while.

Colts get pick 1 and I win a load of money at the cost of one season? I'm torn!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,308 ✭✭✭Pyjamarama

Why be torn? They're not going to the playoffs so if they end up getting no1 pick it's win win for you. Football in the NFL is one of those sports where first is everything. You may as well be bottom as midtable.

If the colts suck for one year and end up drafting Andrew Luck and sitting him for 2 years then he takes over and they don't miss a step and continue to be perennial play off team then it will have been worth it.

Not that i'm advocating cheering against them, i just wouldn't be as crushed in your situation... :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,299 ✭✭✭spiralism

It's similar to the San Antonio Spurs in 1997 when they lost David Robinson for the season and finished with the worst record as a result... in the next years draft they drafted Tim Duncan to play alongside him... and a dynasty was born. funny how history could repeat itself

or, if we're going to go off the wall altogether, polian trades the no.1 pick for a king's ransom (which is something he'd do) and the broncos are left with the rights to an electifying young QB from Stanford after trading with the colts... :pac:

1:00 ET Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys [-1.5] Lions to keep the great run going, Stafford and Megatron to have mega game.
1:00 ET New Orleans Saints @ Jacksonville Jaguars [+7] Can' see past the Saints for this one.
1:00 ET San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles [-9] Eagles to bounce back and get their season back on the road.
1:00 ET Washington Redskins @ St. Louis Rams [+2] Rams to just shade this one, Bradford needs a big game.
1:00 ET Tennessee Titans @ Cleveland Browns [-1] I fancy the Titans for this one, not quite sure why.
1:00 ET Buffalo Bills @ Cincinnati Bengals [+3] Fitzy to keep it going.
1:00 ET Minnesota Vikings @ Kansas City Chiefs [+2] Vikes surely can't fúck this one up?
1:00 ET Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears [-6] Cam to come back down to earth, Bears to cover the spread easily.
1:00 ET Pittsburgh Steelers @ Houston Texans [-3.5] Texans at home to edge the Steelers.

4:05 ET Atlanta Falcons @ Seattle Seahawks [+4.5] Falcons to give the Seahawks a whipping.
4:05 ET New York Giants @ Arizona Cardinals [+1] Cardinals to win here.
4:15 ET Miami Dolphins @ San Diego Chargers [-7] Miami shouldn't be a 0-4 team after this one, but I'm afraid they will be.
4:15 ET Denver Broncos @ Green Bay Packers [-12.5] Packers to win, Orton to have a good game.
4:15 ET New England Patriots @ Oakland Raiders [+4] Patriots will come back to form here.

    SNF

It's going to be a long night for the Colts D, it seems as if the 2011 Colts look to be the 1997 San Antonion Spurs, one bad year and they draft the best prospect in years. Imagine Luck after two years under Peyton. Worrying.

That would be based on Peyton never returning. Which he probably will. With Bullitt and Brackett now gone for the season the Colts are a complete write-off this year. Will Peyton return in 2011? Probably not and Irsay has said as much AFAIK. If he is even good to return they will probably keep him out until 2012 as the Colts will be well dead within any possibility of Manning returning early.

I still think they will better the Vikings, Rams, Chiefs, Dolphins and the Bengals. And should Peyton not return for the Colts will have to fight for that number 1 pick, which I don't think they much of a chance at.

The Spurs situation and the Colts is only slightly comparable. Duncan and Robinson could play together. Manning and Luck can't.

I don't see Peyton coming back in 2011. That increases their chances massively of getting no.1 pick.

It's between themselves, Chiefs, Seahawks, Dolphins and Bengals.

Your point on the comparison is perfectly fair but if the Colts do draft Luck and he goes as expected then the Colts will look like absolute geniuses, drafting two franchise quarter back consecutively.

Luck holding the clipboard for 2 years under Manning could have ridiculous consequences for the rest of the league.

I dont see it being luck. Colts feel a debt to Peyton i think and Polian is going to go all in to win it again before he retires. Polian is no spring chicken either, he doesnt want to wait. Imo if colts get the no.1 pick, their FO will pull a genius move off and get a king's ransom from another team for the pick, one which they'll use to make a superbowl winning team around manning. They could rebuild that Oline, add another quality receiver to the passing game (aside from wayne and clark, they havent much) and add a quality RB, all for the cost of the rights to Andrew Luck.

Colts aren't that complete a team at all, as this year has shown, it's really a credit to manning that he got them a superbowl, even though it has the likes of wayne, clark, brackett, freeney and mathis it also has scrubs like addai, collie, garcon and a poor offensive line and interior defensive line holding them back. Instead of making a luxury project pick in andrew luck, polian could fix many of the problems of that team in one fell swoop with such a deal.

personally I'd rather an elite franchise Qb for the next 15 years than an instant "complete team" with an elite QB that will only last a few more years.

(assuming luck adapts well to the NFL and becomes elite)

Newton is 13/20 198 yards with 2 rushing TD's. Carolina must be beginning to think they got him as a steal for a overall number 1 pick (I know how odd that may sound but he is by far exceeding all projections for him).

The Eagles can F off... so angry right now. How can you basically throw this game away like that. There's no excuses. Still incapable of scoring on the 1 yard line and our D has already been completely exposed. Total joke.

What a comeback by Detroit. Certainly a difference from the 0-16 Lions we all know and love.

Calvin Johnson what a player though. First player to catch 2+ TD's in the first four games of a season.
