Soooo much spam. Lets keep all the match discussion here.

It will be exciting for sure. I was raised in south africa (born in Zimbabwe) but I am rooting for the Samoans in this game. Were it not for the short turn around for their pool matches they could well have beaten Wales and be in control of their destiny by now. The Boks have selected their best available team with Bismarck FINALLY being picked at hooker and Lambie getting a start at full back against meaningful opposition. Should be cracker. :D

Samoans can't handle the Jaapie mind games. Their discipline poor. Burger is legendary at this part of the game.

SA just seem too smart for Samoa. They soak up pressure well then punish them territorially. Samoa getting frustrated it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

SA are well able for Samoa, their defence is making the hits and making the turnovers.

    13-0 HT

Samoa are looking frustrated and Nigel is waiting to bin one of them.

Hopefully that try will make it into more of a game now.

If Samoa win and SA get a losing bonus point, does this affect us?

If SA lose and get a bonus point and Samoa don't get 4 tries they top the group regardless. If SA lose with a bonus point and Samoa get a bonus point then it all comes down to whether Wales get a bonus point win or not. If they do 3 teams would be on 15 points and points difference would come in. If Wales didn't get the bonus point samoa would top the group with SA in second

Eh.. am I the only one hoping that SA win this so we do NOT run the risk of meeting them in the QF?

Seriously would anyone prefer Ireland playing a wounded-looking-for-revenge SA in the QF? No way :-/

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

SA are scum of the earth.

Brussow hammerfists the guy repeatedly when Williams is defenceless then he flathands him back and Williams gets sent off? wtf?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,915 ✭✭✭MungBean

No way should that have been a red.

I am. Although Samoa are playing excellently. Don't agree with that red. That yellow balances it out

Owens didn't see the red card incident nor did he make the decision to give the red, it was the touch judge, but i agree it didn't warrant a red. I think the yellow was a fair call.

Have to feel sorry for Samoa, if the fixtures had of been kinder to them they could have had a chance.

Doesn't mean he doesn't feel guilty about giving him the red.

Those green blazers the SA squad wear are so poor.

will someone tell the samoans that they are actually allowed go to ground with the ball and that it doesn't HAVE to be off loaded when you are tackled

Cause he sent a guy off and as you say he wasn't sure himself.

Sure Wayne Barnes and all those guys are half mad.

Only saw teh second half, but what a display of handling from the Samoans. Joy to watch.

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

Nothing to worry about with SA. They're one-dimensonal bullies and cheats.

Samoa were the better team and were desperataly unlucky.

SA will be found out in the knockout stages.

Huh? I never said he was unsure i said he didn't see the incident because he said that himself.

Going by that touch judges decision to give the red their should be 3 or 4 sendings before that one.

Good game Samoa had the beating of SA but just didn't hold onto the ball, too many knock ons.

13-5 FT - and a great 2nd half from Samoa. The 'mighty' Boks almost found wanting yet again. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,549 ✭✭✭Noffles

Great 2nd half, some of the passing in the last few minutes was brilliant stuff.. shame they knock it on so often..

Can't say SA were that bad really, Samoa wanted it far more though..

Wales and Fiji soon and all going well, we'll see you in the 1/4r's

SA played well, Samoa played the game of their lives.

I think the 'Boks are being underrated by a lot of people.

Overrated IMO and I look forward to Aus taking them down on October 9th but I'm not convinced that will happen. Didn't I do well to stay away from Samoa to win at 10/1? Goes to show even this old dog can learn a few new tricks. :D

On what basis?! If Ireland beat that Samoa side by 8 points today I would have been thrilled.

SA are exceptionally strong at set piece, balanced back-row, good halfbacks, top class centres (with JdV on the bench for impact), can kick goals from 60m and have serious gas out wide in the back three with Lambie slotting in well at 15. Their only problem is the coach won't drop Smit for the best hooker in the world in BduP.

Stupid thing to say. I don't think rugby really suits you.

First of all, Williams was off his feet and nowhere near binding. He was illegally holding a player. Said player, Brussouw, battered Williams' gripping arm to break free as any other player would do.

Williams wasn't "defenceless". Just very stupid for unnecessarily adding to Samoa's ever-growing number of stupid and cynical penalties. For such an experienced Kiwi, he should have known better.

I think the 'Boks are being underrated by a lot of people.

To be honest I'd think the opposite. They're highly overrated in my opinion.

Despite being ranked 2nd in the world, they've scraped past Wales and Samoa (7th and 10th respectively). They seem to lack creativity and I find them utterly boring to watch. Their forwards are strong but don't seem to be as effective as they could be.

Even last WC they weren't the best team in my opinion. They got a lucky draw, only having to play Fiji and Argentina, and cruised to the final where they kicked their way past England in a poor game.

I think we could have done worse when the groups were drawn so that if we came second we'd be playing against SA

This is a stupid rule re deliberate knock on. For this reason - if a player deliberately knocks the ball forward but catches it before it hits the ground he is allowed to continue. If he drops it it is a penalty and in some referees' eyes (as here) a yellow card. Doesn't make sense. It should either not be an offense meriting a penalty but rather a scrum to the opposing side whether the ball hits the ground or not or be a penalty to the opposing side whether it hits the ground or not.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,731 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

In this case the player is adjudged not to have made any attempt to catch the ball so is punish for cynical spoiling.

As someone who was at the game... SA were one dimensional, lacking any dynamism in the centres and their wings were starved of the ball all night.
They were matched at scrum time by Samoa who are not known for a strong, structured tight five. Samoa played the expansive rugby out wide and showed more penetration on the loop around. SA performed at the level of an average Heineken Cup game... kicking away possession with pointless up-and-unders when they lacked direction on attack... they looked like the Pomms on the pitch and performed like them - negative rugby all-round. Even an out of form Auzy will be licking their lips after tonights performance - as was stated by one yarpy fan beside me.

High light for the bocks was no.7
