Dundalk The Most Underrated Town In Ireland

What's with all the negativity about Dundalk.I was there recently visiting a relative and i thought it was a grand place. There's a great selection of pubs and restraunts and it's shopping facilities are excellent. It has a few skangers but so does everywhere in ireland and if my word is not good enough here's some comments about Dundalk on likeplace.ie.

Seems to be one of most under-rated towns in Ireland ? Has got everything - shops, pubs, restaurants, historical buildings, etc. Was told not to go there before I left for a short trip around Ireland, but it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip.

The town has a bad name due to the troubles, but having spent 4 days there I think this is unjustified - good crac, lots of places to go and much to see

Dundalk should fair well in the post-Boom years - the town itself is well structured with multiple options for shopping, drinking or eating. Most of the boom estates and all that crap are in the suburbs. Crime no worse or better than any other Irish town of this size. For the visitor it is close to Cooley and Carlingford, as well as being close to Blackrock and many small unspoilt beechs - weather permitting.

A lot better than expected ! - spent one day there recently - good infrastructure, shops, restaurants and many interesting historical sites.

Good town with lots to do - a little over built, but the downtown has maintained its character. After visiting last week, it is now on my list of places to live !

Used to live there - has improved immensely since then - has finally moved on from the "troubles" - as long as u stay clear of the usual state funded welfare estates, the place has more or less everything one could expect from a large town - good shopping, wide choice of good restaurants, good pubs and even nice park areas. The architecture seen throughout the town is also impressive and varied. If I came back to Ireland, I would be hard pressed to find a better place to settle down - it also has the advantage of the M1 right on the doorstep - so very close to both Dublin and Belfast.

Ridleys has one of the best smoking areas I've been in and you can knacker drink outside the Spirit Store. Can't think of anything else going for Dundalk though.

They should have been taken out for a night in Mr Ridleys. That would have changed their minds..either that or their families would be still looking for them.

It's definitely underrated. Perhaps Ross Kemp could do a show there and increase its worlwide profile.

Great sense of camaraderie in the place. With Newry so close to the place it's pretty much a battle to retain local trade and local employment. I'd welcome any of the little fuhkers who run my town council to take a trip there to see how things should be done.

But Dublin inflicted Jedward,Westlife and Boyzone on the country while my beloved East Cork is responsible for Crystal Swing! At least the Corr's could play there instruments.

Er eh, the point of the show is to help rundown areas, no?

He should have been sat in the Crowne Plaza having a steak dinner and champagne with Dermot Ahern.

Our Protestant brethern have always been welcome in the town.

I remember Peter Robinson and his friends visiting us in '86, not to mention the friendly with Linfield a few years earlier.

I always had this idea of planting loads of dynamite around the outskirts of Dundalk, just to loosen it up a bit. Then we could just push it out to see and forget about it.
