The "I'm Not Happy With This On My Car Thread"

    Right,

Inspired the the "Today I did something to my car thread", this thread is for things that you see/stand out every time you wash your car or whatever that you are not happy about.

At the moment, there's rust on my brake calipers, paint chipping from my alloys due to corrosion and kerb rash on a couple of them from the previous owner.

    What's up with your car?

The radio,it's archaic. Also ,the rear window in the soft top needs to be repaired which is one thing I haven't got around to. It can wait til next year due to me having the hardtop anyway.

One of the alloys is annoying me aswell as it's a bit chipped. You know this thread is just gonna make me spend more money now seeing as I've spent enough getting it up to scratch!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

The front drivers side alloy is badly kerbed. Makes it blend in with the tyre so the alloy looks tiny :(
A rip on the stitching of the back seat from the previous owners baby seats.
The interior handles were so scratched I covered them in matching carbon wrap to the factory shtuff.

There's a rattle from the glovebox between 1200-1500 revs that I have almost found I think, I'm pondering changing the colour and/or the wheels and some little scrote robbed a headlight washer cover during the week. Thankfully the new one (with a few spares) is with Paint Doctor as we speak:)

Changing the colour of the vRS?! To what? Vectra white? :) seems alot of money to put into THAT car

The interior. Its manky, needs a decent hoover out. Plus that annoying side airbag light :D

I tell you what pee's me off. Garages thinking they can brand my car with the new paint stickers they use just above the model.

Bought a donor car for €60 from a breakers yard and transferred over all the parts I needed (new bumpers, tailgate, etc) but can't find replacement door pins and the doors sag terribly. Really puts a downer on my €360 beater car :o

The latch on my glovebox is broken, I'm using a small piece of cardboard to wedge it shut and I'm too lazy to fix it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,444 ✭✭✭Dohnny Jepp

The not so stylish scratch someone kindly left on my car yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,122 ✭✭✭✭Jimmy Bottlehead

The bumper scratches that the old lady who owned my car before me left there.

Also the cup holder which is slightly broken.

need to replace the radio with one that has a cd player:(. The leather around the gear stick is looking a bit worn and needs replacement.

Whopper wiper-shaped banana scrape on my windscreen across my face that I'm convinced happened due to parking my car in a basement and getting concrete dust in the wipers.

    I'll fix it someday!

There's an annoying scrape on the bonnet - it looks like the car was parked under a tree branch for ages and scraped at it. I don't have enough patience or elbow grease to try and get rid of it.

    The alloys are chipping away.

Numberplate surrounds are from the dealer - they need to go.

Good to see no mention of that which we will not speak of :D

Main issue I have with my car is road noise.. The Cabin can get quite loud, Possibly a different make of tyre is called for

I dont think that rattle is the glovebox. It is possibly the dash at that side of the car.
Remove the end cover on the passengers side and check all the Torx screws holding the dash in place. if it means loosening them and pressing againgst the dash while tightening them, then do this. I have read it worked for others.

I'll give that a go. Thought it was the box around the rain sensor but it's not, or my toll tag.

Little scuff on my front bumper which should compound out no problem, been there since I bought car 2 weeks ago. That's it really otherwise it's as new.

    Bridgestone Potenzo 050
I think it is because they are starting to get fairly well worn now.

Also a spary of silicon around the rubber that rubs against the door can help

I had Potenzas in the past and found them noisy, being worn won't help matters. They're coming on Dunlops now, have a set on mine and can't really complain. Can't escape the fact it's a small car in a slightly bigger body though so refinents not going to be great.

Car park dings and a couple of rust blisters. Needs new rubber and discs soon enough too...wallet out; assume the position...

stone chips on the bonnet and front bumper and front wings. sill bent in where the jack fell over. side skirt covers most of it thank god! oh and the 17' rims don't go well with the local councils repair of the potholes.

Its a cúnt to bleed the coolant, so every now and again, gurgle behind the dash when I start in the mornings

The aftermarket 17s are no longer made so I had to cobble a centre cap from a newer set on one wheel. Looks cack

Shoddy repair on the rear quarter means the rear left tyre rubs off the body over bumps

I have no full lock on the right due to my "custom" fitted gearbox

Despite all that, the worst part is its a van that encourages you to drive it in an enthusiastic and flamboyant manner, bad for the petrol costs...

Italians are high maintenance at times but soooo worth it :pac:

1.8 would go like stink though!

    Currently it's a 1.2 8v if I'm not mistaken.

nice thread LOL. This might be a long post....

    '00 Beetle:

    Heater core is leaking
Half of the dash is ripped out
    Needs new rear brake pads
Passenger door trim ripped off/window isnt working/door isnt locking
Alarm works when it wants to
Busted PCV pipe, feckin oil going everywhere
Radio fecked, no tunes at all like!
Some noisy tappets (might be marginaly low oil pressure)
Wont go into 1st when stopped without a double clutch press or a quick pop into 2nd first
Pre cat O2 sensor needs to be replaced
    Battery is a little loose
Oh and its missing its little flower. IDGAF about that though.

    '98 V70 T5

Shocks shot all round (220K miles!)
PCV is vented, so smells like pants in the car
Noise from the loose trim on the boot is drving me nut, the extra noise from the wife complaining is adding to it
Handbrake doesnt work (Auto, so it sits in "P")
Electrics go a bit mental in the winter (need to fix B+ terminal)
I forget all of this when I stomp of the throttle pedal though :)

    '99 S80 T6

Burns oil like its on fire at idle (rings shot on cyl #2)
Inner CV joint wobbly on right side
Slow puncture on left front wheel
Front tires are smoked and need to be replaced
Control arm bushing are on the way out
Shocks are getting tired (ride is morelike a caddilac than Ovlov right now)

The 2.0 TS from an Alfa drops in as it has the same block as the 1.8 HGT :) electrics will be the biggest nightmare...

    Corrected ;)

    Maybe the 130bhp 1.8 in a Bravo, the 1.8GT ain't GT material...

I wouldnt say hate, but right now me and my motor are not seeing eye to eye - its parked up 2 weeks now and going nowhere yet still costing me money.

    anyway heres a list

:starter motor calved with the "gear"? sticking out - que awful squealing when pull started :(

:constant overheating issues & possible/probable hg faliure (due to misadvice mostly)

    :rear window regs dont work,

:some lights in the dash not working - can't be arsed removing the steering wheel/airbag etc to fix them (I have a warranted fear of car airbags)

:does less than 30mpg - i can live with that, cant afford it but its the price you pay for not wanting to drive 1.2's and 1.4 butterboxes.

I'm not that much into dropping a car unless you're using manufactuer approved equipment. Any of us can buy lowering springs from the net but are you contradicting the hours of expertise that went into designing your car in the first place? For example if you have a Toyota and you fit TRD parts you should improve your cars handling as well as appearance. If fitting random aftermarket stuff you are probably ruining the geometry or whatever.

The hours of expertise that are also considering a price for which to sell the car ;)

I'll be using Eibach springs which are made specifically for my car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

Generally companies like Eibach don't just slap together springs that would crappify the handling

I think this is fair testament to that
    http://performance-suspension.eibach.com/cms/motorsports_champions

    As for me:

Rear driver side spring is cracked, annoying to say the least, waiting on eibachs to fix it
Realised how bad the alloys are in terms of kerbing and paint damage when I washed it, balls.
There's a bucket load of stone chips
Tracking is off a little, just enough to be annoying
Drivers seat isn't the most comfy, if I find a decent recaro replacement...

I had planned an aftermarket crank to replace the one that was ruined. Now I'm being told we can't get the Buddyclub one in Europe. Now I'm back to buying a secondhand crank which are like rocking horse shite so I'll most likely have to buy a full Integra engine. I've the makings of 2 bar the cranks
