Anyone watching the Michael Jackson trial on sky news?
Co-CEO of AEG on the stand now, talking about the dates for the concert..
Anyone know how long the trial is expected to last?

I dont have all the facts with this. But am I right to believe the state is trying to convict Conrad of killing Jackson because of the drugs he gave him, which led to his death?

But was Jackson asking for these drugs?

But that's not the point though, is it? Doctors are supposed to operate within certain guidelines and codes of ethics, are they not?

We don't know who administered the drug, was it the doctor or MJ himself.
I think it is fairly obvious he was taking drugs, prescribed or not.

He may get off on the fact MJ maybe took more pills when the doctor wasn't there. If he had not taken them, he would be alive.
but the basic level of care given to MJ was not good. Plus he hessitated on calling 911. He also didn't tell the EMT what drugs he had taken.

This doc was giving him a cocktail of drugs every night, without anything happing, MJ taking more without the docs knowledge is the only case they have.

    My verdict;
    Doc not guilty
brought to civil court, doc guilty.

    Doc will never work again.

Looking back on the This Is It movie, he did seem a bit lethargic doing Thriller and Earth Song, and I think those were filmed the night he died. Also, that big jacket he wore was lying on the bedroom floor in pictures of the scene. I'd say he was out of it every night on propofol. Sleeping pills are one thing. Can't imagine being given anesthetic to knock you out every night. The slurred speech of Jackson is strange to hear, but he would get a rush of euphoria from the drug, just as you do from sleeping pills, so it would be easy to get addicted.

Heard freaky audio of MJ talking before he died. He sounded brain damaged :( (although there's talk of that audio being tampered with).

Just heard that now, it was about 6 wks before he died I think. Quite shocking, the news said his speech was "slightly slurred", but wasnt expecting that. Sounded completely out of it.

    Hmm...It's America so;
    Black guy on trial. Guilty.
Wealthy black guy on trial. Innocent.
Civil suit & poor. Guilty and must pay $200,000
Civil suit & rich. Guilty and must pay $200,000,000

And a bunch of lawyers take 50%.

He over prescribed Wacko so he was incompetent rather then a murderer, but the fans want their blood and no-one does show trials better then the Americans.

Once the cameras are in there it becomes a tele drama rather then a trial. It is reality TV with a very real outcome. This is a huge advertisement as to why television cameras should be kept out of the courts.

Raoul Duke: We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.... Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas

Why does the USA televise these things?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭Hasmunch

He's been found guilty so it's all over.....

    untill the appeal of course

    LINKY
Michael Jackson's former doctor, Conrad Murray, has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death.

Murray faces up to four years in jail over Jackson's death from "acute propofol intoxication" in Los Angeles, where the singer was rehearsing for a series of planned comeback shows.

The prosecution claimed Murray, who was being paid $US150,000 a month, killed Jackson by administering a deadly cocktail of drugs to help him sleep, and then abandoning him at the crucial moment.

Murray was depicted as a reckless physician who abandoned Jackson while he was under the effects of the powerful anaesthetic on June 25, 2009.

The defence has sought to present Jackson as a desperate drug addict who would have ended up killing himself with an accidental overdose with or without Murray's help.

Murray agreed to become Jackson's personal physician as the singer prepared for a series of comeback concerts in 2009.

Murray did not testify during the trial but previously acknowledged to police that he gave Jackson propofol and other sedatives on the morning the singer died.

A more pertinent question is why the rest of world do not televise 'these things' or at least allow cameras/media in the court room?

I think it makes good TV and more importantly displays openness, the only fair critisism is the effect it has on the jury...

Lawyers fees are usually one third of whats awarded in American civil cases. Still too high in fairness when you consider its 10% in Ireland.

    25 to life
Murray (58) now faces up to four years in prison. He was remanded in custody without bail. He will be sentenced on November 29th.

4 years according to the Irish Times.

I am sure he knew well it was coming. His defense was not great and the propofol expert they used was wraped up a few times by the prosecution lawyer. then he did not take the stand himself.

interesting to see it on tv though

Having watched most of the trial a guilty verdict was definitely the right one but I think the sentence should be minimal.

Most of the world would think that the Dr didn't kill Jackson, the jury doesn't agree.

As a fan I suppose I was hoping for a guilty verdict. Then again, MJ was a drug addict and you never know how persuasive he could have been with that doctor to give him more drugs.

At the end of the day the doctor pretty much screwed up every chance he had to save his life, though, whatever about the injection, so he can get away outta that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,758 ✭✭✭Laois_Man

    That was the right verdict!

The main thing is the clown will never get to practice medicine ever again. Not that anybody on the planet would have let Murray be their doctor ever again regardless off the verdict anyway!

    Good ridance!

Just watching post-verdict on Sky News. A bunch of tools jumping around in the street, dancing to 'Beat It' to celebrate. FFS. This was a guy who bleached his skin white while claiming it was a skin 'conditioning' while singing about how it 'doesn't matter if you're black or white'. A load of bollocks. The Doc was just a convenient scapegoat.
