How long is protein powder good for after opening?

I have two things of protein powder at home and while I believe they have a use by or best before date on them, I originally opened them well over a year ago at this stage. How long after opening are they good for? From what I remember there was no information saying they had to be used within a certain time after opening.

Threads like this pop up all the time. I reckon if you smell it, and it smells ok, then taste a little bit. If it's ok and you've no bad reaction, then it's ok.
