Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez are both out which means Berba and maybe Owen ? start

Is Welbeck fit ? I'm sure we wont play 1 up front.

im predicting a dire game and a mundane 2-0 united win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,356 ✭✭✭NeVeR

    Predicted Team

    De Gea
    ----Fabio -- Jones -- Rio ? -- Evra
    --Young -- Anderson -- Fletcher -- Nani/Park
    Berba -- Giggs/ Welbeck

    Is Rio Fit ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

You'd have to think Welbeck will start. Very much doubt Owen will start though because that'd be three games in a week for him. Not sure if SAF will feel Berbatov deserves to start after his dire performance on Saturday.

I'm hoping to see Ashley Young off Welbeck with two of Nani/Valencia/Park on the flanks.

I'll predict(I'll probably be totally wrong)

    Lindegaard

    Fabio----Jones
    Rio
    Evra

    Valencia
    Carrick----Giggs
    Park

    Young

    Welbeck

I have a sneaky feeling we might see Carrick at CB tonight. If Jones or Rio gets injured we could be up the creek. I'm gonna go for something like

    Lindegaard
    Fabio
    Rio
    Carrick
    Evra
    Park
    Giggs
    Fletch
    Young
    Berba
    Welbeck

    Maybe!

Lindegaard might start as we are at home and it's on of the easier teams.

Carrick in ahedd of Jones ?

    United 4 FC Basel 1 ;)

Also i agree with the Berba comment.. but i think Ferguson will play him... We need to pimp him up to sell him on.. No one will buy someone that's not playing.

I'd say he's gone at xmas

Whats the story with DDG not playing in the CL? Is it to keep Lindegaard sharp if needed and content at being second fiddle or what is it?

Just as you say that, it wouldn't suprise me to see DDG play as I'm sure SAF will want him to get his CL debut under his belt.

The deal with Lindegaard is that he was really impressive in pre season and there was suggestions that he was considered to start the season as number 1. SAF probably feels he deserves to play a bit more than your typical back up goalkeeper does.

That was just what I think could happen but with Fergie, who knows! I just think he'll rest either Rio or Jones in case of injury.

    3 - 0 To United

Fancy Carrick and Berba to start this on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,356 ✭✭✭NeVeR

    I'm going to say 3-0
    nani 2 - Young 1

My theory is that Fergie wants to give Lindegaard as many games before Christmas as he can in case he sends De Gea home for Christmas. He did it with Ronaldo. De Gea will be used to a winter break.

Not only that but AL has been really impressive in the games he has played and he deserves whatever games he gets.

Giggs as striker with Welbeck I assume? Hardly 4-5-1 against Basel.

No Shaquiri for Basel - big miss for them.

I was thinking Young would play in between midfield and Welbeck?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,838 ✭✭✭✭3hn2givr7mx1sc

Giggs' 750th start for United tonight.

Could be a decent back at 11/1 for first scorer.

    EDIT: Changed to 9/1 now.

Maybe Giggs on the left with Young up top with Welbeck?

I like this team. Would like to see Giggs wide left and Young through the middle but its more likely to be the other way round.

It will interchange throughout the game. Great way to confuse defenders!

Welbeck too is capable of drifting wide, so its a nice fluid frontline. I like it.

    Valencia Welbeck Young

Might see a bit of rotation between the two IMO.

Should still be a team well capable of scoring goals. Going with 3-0.

Basel could cause an upset, it's unlikely but United need to concentrate tonight. There are very few uselss sides in the Champions League and we're missing a host of regular starters, saying an easy 3-0 is likely doesn't make sense I'd say a scrappy 1-0 or possibly a 1-1.

    Glazers Out!

Should be an easy win, although Basel have a cracking talent playing for them tonight.

Basel have started like United usually do.

We should be 1 up, sublime cross from Young.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

Ah Tony it was easier to score than back across.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,087 ✭✭✭markc1184

Valencia should have went for that himself instead of knocking it back towards Welbeck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,026 ✭✭✭✭adox

    More like it!

I've heard about their goalkeeper, think he's only 22 apparently very good, though De Gea is probably better.

Nice loud shout and claim by DDG there! More of that please!
