    Will last aprox 10 weeks.
Workers will not close lanes during peak hours (7am-10am and 4pm-7pm)
www.galwaycity.ie will update with traffic info.
    http://www.galwaycity.ie/GeneralNews/260811_02.html

This thread is not about RB pro/cons nor city officials competence, it's to inform commuters.
Please don't clog it up with too much general chat so people can follow what's going on and if anything changes.

    Yay, I can't wait!

    ;)

Well, the bridge-works haven't been too bad with the peak hours unaffected (outside of that first week), so hopefully this will run smoothly too.

Could not understand what they are doing on the Bridge at lunchtime, they are digging up all the new road surface at the lights that they only filled in last week, they have the lights turned off now with a stop go system in operation, its chaotic as usual

Probably just a temporary surface they put down for nights.

Looks like they were starting this evening when I was coming home at 5.

Since they can't close lanes during peak hours they probably waited until rush hour was over.
Good to know it's on schedule this time, hopefully the 10 weeks will also be on schedule *many fingers crossed*

I've heard the work is due to start in earnest tomorrow, and that traffic in certain directions will be reduced to one lane at off-peak times - no idea of how this will work unfortunately. I did hear that the traffic management plan for the works at this roundabout has only been agreed in the past week, but the contractor is hopeful there won't be too much disruption... here's hoping! :)

    Nothing happening down there tonight.

    Already 2 days behind schedule.

According to the GCC web-site the works will not take place during peak times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

They're supposed to be working in 45 mins so should be there with cones and whatnot right now.
Did anyone see them at RB this morning yet?

Traffic disruption is expected at the Lynch Roundabout at Briarhill from next Monday, 3 October, as works begin to replace the roundabout with a signalised traffic junction, as part of the controversial N6 Bothar na dTreabh Multi-Modal Corridor Scheme.

A city council spokesman confirmed that there would not be any lane closures on the approaches to the Lynch Roundabout this week, as works are largely preparatory at this point.

Passed at about 2pm, a few guys were cutting / digging up the shrubs in the center of it.

Just a thought, with new lights going in on some of the roundabouts, where do all the plants go that are being uprooted, surely they will not be wasted or not put to use on some other council space. After all they must have cost a fair bit of cash to do up these roundabouts with the planting schemes. I would like to think that all the money spent on plants/trees/etc...would not be going to waste...and after all it is the season for transplanting!!

There was a gardener lad checking all the plants the last day, looked like he was seeing what could be saved, i dunno.

Much of the driving on that roundabout is beyond redemption, however.

On Sunday I was overtaken, as usual, by a motorist travelling at speed in the left lane, contrary to the signage and the inside lane/right turn rule.

Surprised this thread has not been more active - are the works not impacting on road users at the minute? Have only been going through it at off peak times. The center of the roundabout is nearly fully removed.

There's no change that I have noticed yet, it's still acting as a roundabout.

Work was going on this (Saturday) afternoon - they seem to have started on some of the lanes into the roundabout. Lots going on.

Got an update for anyone travelling through this one

I've had no problem at all. They're doing an excellent job of not causing tailbacks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Lucifer31

I pass that way each day, and I must say they've noticeably been putting an effort into carrying out the most potentially traffic disrupting work outside of peak traffic hours (night time).
So far so good, not that I'm looking forward to traffic lights though...

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 25,234 ✭✭✭✭Sponge Bob

I gotta say fair play to the Corpo for biting the bullet and doing most of the disruptive work at night. It has taken a loooooong time for them to cop on...maybe it was the utter chaos they caused around Newcastle in early September that finally made them do the right thing.

I would be happier if they said they wre going to continue with this policy in future and to clearly identify the key cross city routes where night time working will be the norm in future.

There was a bit of a backlog yesterday evening after 5 from Parkmore down. It seems to be coming along well this morning as I was coming past.

Traffic on Doughiska Road heading towards Briarhill has been heavy the past few mornings.

It would appear that excrement has finally hit the fan on this one today.

I was in early but the word I would use to describe figuring out how to take the turn as I was approaching is thrilling. I had no idea what direction I should be watching for cars coming. Thankfully I took my seeing none within striking distance to be my cue to go.

What was it like at rush hour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,344 ✭✭✭death1234567

Yeah the mini TWO lane roundabout is really bad, Complete chaos. Should be gone soon, AFAIK only 3 weeks of construction left.

What's causing all the morning tailbacks on the Oranmore bypass? Traffic was backed up from the Martin Roundabout at Roscam, a third of the way back the dual carriageway the past few mornings. I thought it was the road works at Briar hill, but it isn't as the dualer is clear in front of the private Galway clinic.
Are there roadworks on the Merlin park road?

I would say it's more to do with people avoiding Briarhill because they heard about the road works.

i went through this at midnight last night, with no other cars around. I had the whole thing to myself and I got so confused I had to stop for a few seconds to figure out where I should be going to get on the M6.

They have been doing a good job so far keeping disruption to a minimum, but There's going to be some amount of crashes there this week if they dont get this stage completed soon.

Also the lights at Rosshill/Dublin road junction seemed to be acting up this morning.

Took me 30 mins to get up Doughishka rd as far as Lidl this morning and looking over at the dual carraigeway it was just as bad.

This is probably correct. At around 9am this morning, Dublin road traffic was backed up till (at least) the junction at Roscam/Doughiska. When it gets busy here it causes the Martin roundabout to become blocked, even partially blocking access to the dual carriageway at the Clinic, and thus backing up the Oranmore dual carriageway.

Earlier than 9am it was probably worse again.

No roadworks or similar evident on the journey in the Dublin road, just traffic volume.

What on earth are the 'crop circles' painted in the middle of this thing ????? Did some bureaucrat decide it is legally a roundabout and therefore must appear like one or something???

Im guessing temp road markings until the traffic lights are operational.

What was worse was the cars backing up and blocking the junction for cars coming from Doughiska and Roscam - jeez people, if the lights are green but you can't get through the junction because the far side is blocked it doesn't mean you can bloody park there for the next 10 mins!

Any chance of a traffic cop - no they'd be doing their jobs, couldn't have that.

I've said it a few times, if we had a bit of policing of the RABs we wouldn't have to remove them. Now it appears that the same problems are appearing at traffic lights.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 31,117 ✭✭✭✭snubbleste

The 50kph speed limit on approaches to this junction are being completely igniored despite enough warning signs. I sincerely hope all those who cannot comply with the speed limit write to their insurer and make them aware they are unable to comply with the law.

I go through this junction every day and up until now it has taken me (from Clarinbridge to Ballybrit)
    Leaving at 8-8.30 = 40 to 50 mins
    Leaving at 9 = 25-30 mins
    Leaving at 9.30-10 = 15-25 mins

The above is approximate, i don't time it exactly (because i would go mental if i did). The works have been managed pretty well i have to say, but it is starting to get worse, today was a bad day. As previous poster it annoys me that people don't slow down on approach as it makes life very dangerous for the workers. It is also pretty confusing going through on the way back at night, its a free-for-all(?)

Will be interesting (relatively speaking) to see where the queues will be with the new junction in place and to compare journey times. That crop circle -good name- is an indication (in my head) that we might get a surprise transformers roundabout/junction that folds in the traffic lights at dusk, turning it back to a gool ol roundabout.
