Do you unpack?

I've just come back from a business trip with my manager. We stayed in a hotel for 3 nights, and on the first night, I dropped into his room to pick him up for dinner. When he opened the door, I was shocked to discover he was putting away his clothes! The monster! :o

I have to say I never unpack when staying in a hotel. I'm half paranoid about leaving behind something I need, but mostly I don't see the point. I just take out what I need when I need it, then pop it into a laundry bag (which I hide around the room to stop them from taking it and charging me for washing my socks). My manager tells me that he always unpacks if he's staying for more than 2 nights, but doesn't bother otherwise.

I was wondering what other people do.

Always hang up my clothes when I get there and leave my toiletries in the bathroom, why wouldn't you?

Right I best go raid Reddit for some topics....this is getting ridiculous....

I'd always hang up my clothes and put stuff away, in particular on a business thing or if I was away at a conference. Don't want crinkly anything. I don't hide my laundry bag, that's just weird.

It was meant to be hyperbole, fgs. I don't care either way.

I thought it was interesting that I never even considering unpacking in a hotel room. What's your problem, exactly?

Then when I pack to leave I find I have a lot more stuff to pack, mmmmmm comfy Hotel dressing gowns and towels! Usually struggle to get the double bed in the bag tho :D

I don't unpack, it just seems pointless when you're going to have to repack in a couple of days, although I'll hang up something if I'll be wearing it to an event so it doesn't get wrinkled. Washing goes in a plastic bag in my suitcase.

    I never unpack either tbh

Always. Feel much more relaxed and at home than pulling wrinkled clothes out of a bag for a few days. Saying that, I was on holidays for a week this year and my 3 favourite shirts were left in the wardrobe which was slid over to the shelf side when I was repacking.

I miss those shirts more than I've ever missed anything in my life.

    I need a moment.

I'd be like your boss, anything over 2 days and I'd unpack. But I always leave my toiletries (in the rare event I actually remember to pack them :S) in the bathroom.

I never used to bother unpacking until one year I came back from Greece with Pharoah ants that promptly multiplied into thousands and took over the apartment. Now I always unpack. :D

    away for business

I hang my shirts and suits up
    toiletries bag in the bathroom

leave the rest in my bag and use one of the side pockets for the laundry, whether its 1 night or 4

if away on holiday, unpack the lot

Depends on the length of the trip, anything over a month and I would unpack. Less than a month, I just hang up shirts if on a business trip. Toiletries always get unpacked.

It took months, the process is really slow and nowhere near as straightforward as with other types because once threatened at all they upsticks and move. They also spread out to multiple colonies in different rooms. Rentakill were on speed dial during that time I tells ya.

I never unpack either, just live out of the suitcase for the duration of my stay .... and more often than not for some time after I get home as well!

Going with the OP on this one - unpacking for three days is hardly worth the hassle. That said, if I'm going away it tends not to be busienss or conference where I need to unpack a suit or something. If I need a nice shirt, I usually wind up buying one.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I'd hang up dresses, but wouldn't put jeans etc in drawers.

I'd put my pjs under the pillow though :o

I always unpack whatever number of my dirty longjohns I brought with me from home... you know, the ones that need a good scrub... then into the laundry bag they go...

They were terribly fond of the knicker drawer alright (they like the warmth you see). I persevered until I saw one in the bed then I scarpered to the aul one's for a couple of weeks.

Bad enough having ants everywhere but pervert ants on top of that.....

So guys, next time you are caught going thru your g/f's knick-knack paddywhacks just say you like the warmth :pac:

I'm currently travelling and I don't so much as unpack but rather have a bag explosion which results in everything everywhere. Seeing as I'm cycle touring and every item has to be repacked in a certain way into certain bags I would have thought I'd have learned my lesson by now....

Regardless, I surely don't unpack and put stuff away in wardrobes etc.

It would never even occur to me to unpack... I put toiletries in the bathroom and take my shoes out but besides that I couldn't be arsed

Has to be unpacked. Simply because it feels more homely with everything at your fingertips I guess.

Saying that though I've never been anywhere for less than a week so that could have something to do with the urge to unpack.

I don't unpack. Even when I'm back home visiting for a week everything is left in the suitcase

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,713 ✭✭✭✭Novella

I take things like toiletries out and hang up clothes if they're difficult to iron or whatever. I wouldn't take everything outta my suitcase 'cause I tend to over-pack so I'm never really too sure what I'll actually wear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

Too much hassle to repack your things when its time to leave. I just rap up everything into a ball and stuff it into the suitcase until it closes.
